Yes, they have tiny little tracheas which are prone to collapsing.  Strange as it sounds, if they don't stop within 5 or 6 snorts, go to them and cover their noses so they have to breathe through their mouths.  This isn't cruel, it opens their throats again.  Obviously, if they just can't stop, call the doctor NOW!  Our 'babies' are much to precious to risk.

Thanks for your response to this stressful situation.  I couldn't figure out what our Shamus (4 mo old short)was doing!  It was freaking me out...it sounds like he's having an anxiety attack, but he doesn't appear to be in any distress.  By the time I read your answer he'd stopped before I could apply the technique.  If it works, I'll know for future episodes:-) I just hope this is what is happening to him.

Our Chi will actually come to us when she starts her snorting attacks.  She seems to know that we will fix it.  Out pug also knows when she's having an attack and will stop playing with her or us immediately.  Until getting that answer from this web site my wife and I were beside ourselves trying to make it stop.  The nose thing works like a charm every time.  But, you do need to hold her nose long enough so that you force her to breathe through her mouth.  Sometimes it takes a few seconds (seems like minutes) for her to do it.
