I have a 1997 Dodge Stratus 2.4Liter. When cold, power steering cannot be turned, after a few minutes I can turn it, but squeals, after its warm, its fine. Fluid is full, not sure how to check, or adjust belt.  Any thoughts on 1: how to check and adjust belt, 2: any other thoughts?

I have the same problem.  Really difficult to turn.  My wife's wrists actually are sore from doing that this past winter.  I'm afraid to take it to a mechanic as it will likely cost over $1,000.  Not sure what to do.  I'm sure Chrysler knows the problem but won't admit it.  e-mail me at nickster0369@yahoo.ca to discuss.

Mine did the exact same thing, you either need to tighten your belt, or replace it.  I had to replace mine, to get to it, we had to take the passenger side tire off, take the alternator/air conditioning belt off, then take the power steering belt off.  Mine didnt have a diagram of the belt so remember the order that the alternator belt was on at.

Well to tell you i have the same problem and it is your belt you need to look at the belt its the pully and the belt they are not tight enough and when it is clod the belt get hard a brittle let it warm always before you take off that is with any car see what  condition the belt is in and if it is the belt replace it
