I would like to import vector drawings that I created using Aldus SuperPaint 3.5 for MacIntosh into any known supported drawing program  for MacIntosh, such as AppleWorks, Canvas, Illustrator, etc, in such a way that the vector objects (such as arrows) remain as vector objects and can be edited as such.

I have not had experience with Aldus SuperPaint so I am not aware of it's file export capacity. If you can in-fact save or export vector files from SuperPaint then your best bet is to save or export your file as a vector .eps (encapsulated postscript). That will preserve the file to be opened in any program that has the capacity to read and display vector art. If optional, do not use any compression on the file when saving/exporting. That may make it available to more programs.

Many older programs that supported vector drawings such as the one you are using offered a save as, "Illustrator 88" option. this would be an excellent choice since you have Adobe Illustrator.

Be aware that some programs may see the eps. extension and rasterize the file converting it to a bitmap. Not all application programs are equipped with plug-ins that will read vector.

It is not uncommon to loose things like arrowheads and decorative fills through file conversion. That loss may be avoided if the native program has the ability to convert everything to curves or outlines prior to exporting. Arrowheads can be preserved by creating them with lines instead of selecting them from a menu option.

To my knowledge the Aldus company of Seattle Washington, sold out to Adobe back around 1995. It's time to upgrade!!
