I would like to know the same thing, I have an 8 week old shihtzu, he has an umbilical hernia, and I worried his pups may have the same problem.

No, you definitely should not breed a dog that has an umbilical hernia! The puppies can be born w/ these also and can somtimes be very, very large.

My male had one too, the owner told me it was from the mother chewing off the ambilical cord too short.  I doubt that this is a condition that can be passed down.  I got his fixed at the vet for 140.00
