my main switch box connected to my meter on the utility pole has 2 60 amp fuses,i want to upgrade to a higher amp box ,so i can run a welder in my garage.would a 100 amp breaker box be better or does the 2 60 amp fuses add to a 120 amp sevice...or does it only rate as a 60 amp service?

your best bet is to update to at least a 100 amp service.this includes wire, conduit, grounding, etc.
while 60+60 does equal 120, electricians never really learned how to add like that.to them, 100+100 equals 100
