the word REDBONE comes from Virginia. there were a group of Indians who mixed with runaway slaves and poor whites and they called those Indians... REDBONE. thatz y people call some lighter skinned (or mixed looking) black people REDBONE. Look it up! Tri-racial groups of Virginia.

I also am from the south and mz-lunatic is correct to a degree. A true redbone is light complected and has red hair. I happen to know a girl that is just that. Very light skin complection, red hair, and freckles. She is very unique and an uncommon sight to many. A lot of people think she has dyed her hair but "the carpet matches the drapes". (also any "fuzz" that is on her body is red.)
