i am not sure if cat litter works well, but you can litter box train your guinea pigs. You can find information at the library, in a guinea pig book. I am not sure, but i think that first you start off with a small space, with a litter box in the center. you should always keep the litter box in pretty lmuch the same place. Then, once the guinea pig gets used to going in the litter  box in a very small area, you make the area a little bit larger, and then you continue until the guinea pig is litter box trained.!
hope it works for you!
