ok. I'm 17 and had it done 6 weeks ago. For all of you thinking of getting it done. Just be careful. The jewelry parlors are not always clean. Make sure that they use new nettles every time they pierce someone. If you are unsure about getting it done (or your parents are) do some more research and call shops around the city. The piercing itself does not hurt. Of course everyone is different when it comes to pain. It hurt me more afterwords. And Erica, it does'ntmatter what size you are. Anyways, after you get it pieced, clean it!! The last thing you want is to get it infected. And also, be sure you don't change the jewelry until there is no more redness, crusts, discharge of any color and the entrance and exit wounds have sorta curved in. Good luck with your guys piercing!!

I also want my belly button peirced (and what do yah know im 14) what they do is: The entry and exit points for the piercing were previously marked out when the patient was standing Disinfect the skin surface of the navel using a Betadine swab. Injecting the entry point for the piercing with lidocaine through a 26 gauge needle. The needle is advanced under the skin to inject lidocaine at the exit point. A prick with the 26gauge needle is used to confirm that the lidocaine has worked. A 14 gauge piercing cannula is introduced painlessly into the skin. The piercing cannula exits the skin at the inferior end of the piercing. The barbell is introduced into the piercing cannula The barbell is being guided through the piercing by the cannula. The barbell has now traversed the entire length of the piercing and its thread is visible at the superior end of the piercing. Screwing the top ball of the barbell on by hand. Tightening the top ball of the barbell with a needle holder The piercee has stood up slowly and the finished piercing is seen with the client standing. To let you know NOT ALL peircing places do this!

I have had mine done for a looong time now and i work at Hot Stuff in the mall here and handle the piercing (I dont do them but im the assistant).. I'll be glad to answer ANY questions you have about it and clear up some of the already mis-conceptions people had posted on the board.. Most of those people only say they have it done online just to be smart or "cool" I got it done when i turned 15. They make you lie down and look away (you dont have to but its recommended so you dont get nervous and tense up) The person say'scount to three and take a deep breath and about 2 seconds later your all done. It hurts like it would hurt getting your ears pierced. People on the board say it takes 6 months to heal. Obviously they read their pamphlets wrong or were miss informed. It only takes (at most) 6 weeks to heal. And someone said clean it two to three times a day to be safe. You should only clean it No Less than twice a day but no more than twice a day unless you start to see an infection. Just because it turns red doesnt mean its infected. It usually starts turning red about 1-2 weeks after the initial piercing. Its HEALING and its okay. It will also itch. Its okay to LIGHTLY scratch the outter area of your navel with CLEAN HANDS. Dial Antibacterial soap is best. For the first two to 5 weeks try and wash your hands as often as possible. And use Dial as often as possible. For the first few days only wear loose fitting shirts and shorter shirts as often as possible. You shouldnt get it wet (besides cleaning) for 2 weeks. Some places let friends in with you some dont. All places will let at least one parent in with you but that is up to you. All places are different about age with out parental consent. But the youngest (layed out by law) is 16. If it is required to have parental consent you will have to have a document with all your allergies, medications, doctors names, etc. listed as well as parents names address, etc. on it Notarized. Some places have a notary on hand, some dont, but usually there is a notary close by the shop. Make sure you know the needle is clean. Watch the piercer before hand to see where the needle came from. Hey, I'm 15 and i got my naval peirced in August. Its still healing but it looks pretty good. I wanted it pierced for ever and my mom said yes, but my dad said no. SO i just begged all the time and showed him all my friends that had it done. One day we passed the Exit to New Hope (where i wanted to get it done) and he looked at me and was like.. " you wanna get that thing done?" and i was like YEAH!!! so we went. I went to this place called Primal Urge. They are so clean there and you go upstairs to there little room and it looks like a hospital room its has the bed and the paper on it and everything it white and its all disentfected and clean. My dad was like your freakin crazy. He held my hand but it didnt hurt at all! i Didn't even feel it! They lady was like ok.. And needle, ring, ball, and were done! my dad is a wuss and he had tears in his eyes. And i was like umm did you peirce it yet? lol, O, and get platnum!! Im telling you right now get platnum cause its the best medal, dont get anything with nickle and clean it everytime you take a shower. And the beach is the best for it cause of the salt water. I was so happy cause i went to the beach the following week and i looked good and got to go in the ocean. It rocked!

ANSWERS: Bre, when you take it out it dose leave a scar. Kay, you shouldnt have peirced it yourself, but i know peeps who have and thiers is fine you gotto be sure u have good medal and take care of it, Relle, yea like 4 months later mine had like a pinkish around it it goes away, Virgo, you can swim but don't turn the ring when your in the pool and make sure you clean it when you get outa the pool cause the chlorine and the ocean is good for it. Clean it everytime you take a shower. Don't wear clothes like pantyhose or tight shirts over it during the healing process. And if your sensitive to nickle don't get nickle i have platnum and it never got infected. hey! im 13 and i really wany my belly button pierced!!! my friend is 12 and she just got it done! she said it doesnt hurt @ all. but its different 4 evry1!!! i convinced my mom (finally!!!) @ 1st she thought i was joking but i kept asking (not bugging though!) and she realized that i was serious. she and i both did a little research and she talked to her friend had had it done when she was a little younger. shes going to let me get it done!!! i wanted to have it for the summer (2 show off of course! lol jk i though salt water would be good 4 it) but i also horseback ride. i do horse shows almost every wkend in the summer, and we decided that it would be easily infected and it would hhurt because you have 2 wear ur riding pants up near ur navel with a belt and everything on top. ive been doing even more research, and i saw a lot of pictures and heard a lot of stories. before you decide, look @ pics. of people getting it done. if you get sick or feel like you're bout 2 pass out....reconsider. @ 1st it is a little shocking, but feel comfertable w/ wat your looking @ b4 u decide 2 go thru it urself! im gettin mine this fall (sept of 04) and i cant wait! it looks awesum! mi friends looks great!!! just b brave-make sure ur sure u want 1, not cuz u just wanna look "cool"-and make sure ur comfertable w/ the procedure. also read a few of peoples stories-u get 2 hear horror and suscess stories then figure out which 1 u tink u would end up havin. do u also stick to ur word? r u dedicated? (cleanin 2wice a day!) and brave? (the hole thing is a lil scary!) i just have 1 question: can you hav a friend or parent there in the room with you? i def. would want my mom (hey ill admit tat lol it IS a lil scary!) and mayb a friend hoo is also gettin it dun (if sum1 else can!!) thx evry1! good luck 2 me (lol) and evry1! i tink itll b very well worth it!

I have my belly button pierced. I got really worked up before I got it it done. I made sure that everything was sterile first and it made me feel alot better. About does it hurt or not, well, when you lie down and he/she puts the clamp on, it's a little scary to think about. The piercer will tell you to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth and he counts to three. While he was counting, I started to think about other things like what my boyfriend would say and before you know it, like ten seconds later, the piercer was telling me that it looked really awesome. It didn't hurt. All I felt was the clamp. I could not feel the needle going in or out and I didn't feel the ring going in or the ball being screwed on. All you have to do is not think about it....REMEMBER::::::MIND OVER MATTER...it works.

I will never understand how so many people who have replied here think that the ocean shudders is good for a fresh piercing. Yeah, it's great. It's only filled with tons of waste and pollution, and there's only so much bacteria growing in the ocean, and only so many other people there swimming in the ocean. If you didn't catch it, though, that was sarcasm, and no, the ocean is not your healing piercing's friend. Rings are not good for your navel, for several reasons. The shape of the rings can put unneccessary pressure on the piercing, they're a bit more difficult to heal with as they tend to get caught a lot more, and a lot of times even if the piercing is straight the holes can kind of shift to a more crooked setting because of the way that the ring sits. CBB [curved barbells] are a lot better.

I am 13 & today I just got my Navel pierced at twisted tatoos in tx (hurst off of pipeline) for 30$ This place was EXTREMELY steril & the guy who did it was sweet!!Buh since im thirteen if I get a grow spurt It might move up with the rest of my skin yuck!! Buh I went ahead & did it & it looks cut the truth is the clamps do not hurt more then the piercing , buh the piercing it's self didnt hurt that much My dad said I didnt even flinch , even though I am EXTREMELY sensitive so yah its so cute ... though you cant go swimming for about 6 weeks after its peirced! oh well its so cute!! :) Luv, Rogue

I am 14 years old and I just got my navel pierced yesterday...I have a few facts for some people that I just learned... 1.Be sure that you wash your navel piercing 2-3 times a day so that it doesnt't get infected. 2.The best soap to use is Dial soap because of the germ killing power ( I use the hand soap <PUMP> Kind because its easier then the bar of soap) 3.Here in Illinois you have to be 16 without your parent and if you are under age you have to have a birth parent and a photo ID. 4.I've had my Navel Pierced twice now and it doesnt hurt that bad... It hurt when they do it but you can barely tell its there after that. 5.If you are in a sport be EXTRA careful! I'm in cheerleading and we are not aloud to wear ours when performing because they are very easy to get ripped out. 6.You must have yours in for at least 6 months before changing it but it varies for different people. 7.Do NOT touch your piercing with dirty hands... ALWAYS wash your hands before touching it to prevent infections. 8.Have fun and be careful!

When you get your Naval pierced, it doesn't hurt at all, matter of fact I didn't feel it, just don't watch them do it! Anyways, you don't have to change any of your physical activities, JUST DON'T TOUCH IT WITHOUT CLEAN HANDS! AND DON'T LET ANYONE ELSE TOUCH IT! because that will cause serious infection! another things I am always asked is "can I go swimming?" YES! you can go swimming, just afterward, cleanse it very good with the cleansing medication they offer you,oh DO NOT WASH IT WITH ANY KIND OF SOAP! AND DON'T LET CHEMICALS LIKE SHAMPOO ect.GET IN IT...... I will let ya'llin on a secret of mine, okay if your naval gets to where it will get crusty and infection will ooze out of it, just get a shotglass and spray your cleansing medication in it and put it in the microwave for about 10 sec. until hot as you can stand then lay down on your back and hold the shotglass to your belly with the warm cleansing medication soaking on your belly, that will cure the oozing and crust, everyone who has there naval pierced or is considering, you should try this because it is probably the best thing you could ever do, I know that everyones naval is going to ooze, so try it! I hope I helped you in some way....... THANX

I have had my navel pierced a little over 9 months and I am getting my navel pierced again on the bottom because its going to look really cute!!! No more piercings after that though!! Besides my second holes on my ears. Well anyways never ever put peroxide on your piercing it is one of the worst things you can do. I got my navel done at a place named Sider Bite in Manchester and they are the largest jewlery store in New England and one of the greatest piercing places there is. They said that you should never put alchohal or proxide on your navel piercing because it will get really infected and my friend did that it and it turned out really bad in the end so I recommend that you do nt put it on. Also you should never pierce yourself, because you can get your navel really infected and you can get sick from it many people have. Plus if you really want it done you will wait to get it done professionly so you don't hit somthing your not suppost to!! You will make a huge mistake ask any professional piercer and other people. And for all the parents who don't let their teen get their navel pierced you should because you only live once and it's their body and you don't have to look at it and they should be able to make the decision. Also whats the point in not letting them get it done when they would either pierce it themselves and could most likely hurt themselves or they will get it done when they are 18. So you should just bring them so they will always remember the memory of you bringing them to get their cute navel pierced. O one more thing it dosen'tmatter what size you are to get your navel pierced just as long as you are comfortable with yourself.

I am 21, and I just got my navel pierced last night. I happen to be terrified of needles, so I had been putting the piercing off since high school when I decided I wanted it done. I am glad that I waited for so long. I am not sure if I would have been happy at the young ages that some of you girls are getting them pierced, but it is your body, so go for it. The procedure itself was a bit painful, but I had been so nervous about it that I think I made it worse than it had to be. It was done quickly, but one suggestion: even if needles don't bother you, don't watch them do it. I have seen a lot of the posts asking about swimming. I have been told not to swim for at least 4-6 wks. The reason behind this is that a lot of states do not have a good regulation on the amount of chlorine that must be added to pools. Water parks are particularly bad about this because it is hard to keep chlorine levels up with the heat and movement of the water. Most hot tubs are breeding grounds for germs, too. I learned about the disturbing infections and illnesses that can be transmitted in pools while I received lifeguard training. Honestly, it isn't worth the risk of swimming unless you are working at a pool or if you are a competitive swimmer. If you must get in the pool, I would suggest a waterproof bandage such as Clean Seals or Water Block which can be found in most pharmacies. The bandage should help keep your piercing from getting infected. My problem today was that the suit I wore in the pool rubbed a little too much, so I believe with the combination of a two piece competition suit, a waterproof bandage, and proper cleansing 2-3 times daily along with saline soaks should keep the piercing from being infected. Tips: Provon Medicated Lotion Soap and Satin Antimicrobial Skin Cleanser are both mild and effective. Softsoap, Dial, and Almay Hypo-Care are all good brands....they contain triclosan and don't try a soap that is not clear. Pierced Ear Care Solutions are good, but over use can cause dry or flaking skin. Avoid ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL at all costs....pain to all who use it Saline Soaks are good, but don't depend on it to be the primary source of cleaning.....1/4 teaspoon sea salt to 8 oz. water(as warm as you can stand)....this can remove discharge, lymph secretions, relieve itching, and increase the circulation to pierced area while the warmth brings white blood cells to the surface to fight infection. Never use ointments...they clog the punctured area, and breed infection. Some people use essential oils to prevent scars, but never use full strength...always dilute in water. And remember to keep hands clean before touching, wear loose clothing, and clean according to your aftercare instructions.

Hey I got it done! To all those with doubts; it's very quick and if you go to a good place it will barely hurt. My mom got hers done in a mall in a little booth thingie... hurt like hell, got infected straight away. But; this is how it went for me. They showed me all the equipment, made me pick a ring/bar-y thing. Then they made me lie down. They put the clamp on, and that was not any pain unless you are very sensitive. Then the put the needle through and that pinched and hurt ALOT for a second. But then it was gone and it didn't hurt. Then they put the ring through, another second of pain. Then they squeezed on the cap and that was more pressure and only hurt a bit. After, They gave me all the steps to follow and the number to call if I needed help. So, overall... maybe 5 seconds of pain. Very quick and smooth. I'd recommend anyone to do it it is worth the pain!

I have had my belly button pierced since i was 11 and no it does not hurt!! but whatever you do do not put a straight barbell through it because it will rip your skin. also if it gets infected then just put peroxide on it. thats WHAT I DID AND IT HEALED UP IN NO TIME. i am 14 now almost 15 and I'm doing research on piercings but when i go to college i am going to school for piercings. but no it does not hurt and if your parents are old fashioned just tell them all the true facts but make sure you are responsible enough to take care of it and clean it everyday. oh yeah and i went swimming the same day i got mine and it didnt infect it at all. if it is infected the chlorine is like alcohol and will clean it out for you !! so good luck kelly nd all the other grrls out there!!

hey girlies...im 25 an have had my belly pierced for 5 yrs.... what im hearing here is mostly all right... yes u feel a little sting wen its getting done but its over in 30 seconds!! an it will go red around it every1s does... but that DOSE NT mean its infected.. its just the skin getting used to it an it beginning to heal...it should b healed in roughly about 6/8 weeks..an DO NOT ATTEMPT to change the bar until the piercing has fully healed as this can lead to infection!!!!!!! but as along as u clean it 2/3 times a day an b careful u should b totally fine...an it looks great...lots of love nicki xox p.s.. u can go swimming after 3 weeks... considering there's no infection there..

Hey I'm 18 and live in Trinidad. B4 I got my navel pierced people said it didn't hurt. the place I went was clean. I asked the lady at the desk if anyone have ever fainted b4 when doing it, she said no when I did mine it hurt but not to the extent where I bawled. There were other girls outside waiting to get theirs done they asked me if it hurt and I said no because I didn't want to scare them However when I left the building and crossed the road to get a taxi I started seeing stars and went deaf I held on to my friend and she helped me into a taxi but I felt that happened because I didn't eat breakfast or lunch before doing it. But it was worth it I love mine and I did mine Saturday 10th September and Monday 12th of September I ducked school and went beach with my friends and even though I had just gotten my belly button pierced I bathed the most and my piercing is going fine. After I came out of the water I washed it with clean water and the saline solution available at any chemist and I was good to go. The place where I pierced my navel makes sure you heal properly so I was given an appointment to come back after two weeks and was told that I'm doing great. So eat before you go and have fun!!!!!

heey. i just got my belly button pierced today im 14 and u wanna no what the guy who did told me. it was ileagal to get it done, by a guy if ur a 13 uearold girl or younger cause its classed as rape. either way. i have had mine now for like 8 hours and it only really hurts after i clean it. i was just wondering too if i could but a bandaid over it at night to stop it from getting caught on my blankets. and the person who peirced mine was really nice n gave me his cell number so that if i wake up in the middle of the night in pain and my belly button gets infected that i can call him anytime day or night if i have any questions he also said that i could go in in 3 weeks n hed change it for me for free. i think it was really nice of him. if u have any questions ive done my research and i could always ask my piercer cause i would definatly recomend him u can add me on msn red_hot_lips92@hotmail.com

well. acutally this is a question: ok so i've been thinking aobut getting my navel pierced for more than just a few months lets just say.<im 14> Ive asked my parents continuasly and they'd gone with the same answer of no. Can somebody help me convince them? They are the up-tight sort so yeah every little bit of information with help. Also i would like to know of areas that are good. (near Syracuse-ish or farther away if they don;t hurt as much) Oh yeah i heard that some places have hallow needles and other have regular ones? okay heres the deal i am thireen and i told my mom that i wanted my tounge pierced but i was kidding and i then decided i did 'nt want it done, my friend Haylee wanted to get our tounges done together but then i decided if i was going to get it done then i would get permission from my mom (no drama) and what not but then i decided a tounge percing was 'nt for me. with a little research i decided i have the perfec tbelly for a peircing in the naval how old do you have to be to get it done? okay um. thanks and what now well i am out plus i was wondering how many people can you have in the room like i know that they don 't let people that are getting it done after in because it might scare them but like could i have my mom and best friend in there if they ar'nt going to get it done but for support? cause i don't like needles but i have two holes in my earlobes and one in my right cartilage..it did 'nt hurt and could you get the naval numbed cause that 's what i would want to do. i think i want to get it done before eighth grade is over if possible i'll push my mom about it..

I am 14 and want to have my naval pierced. I have done research, and feel very comfortable with everything, But i still have a question. I have heard that after the piercing you cannot go swimming in a pool because of the chemicals. Is this true? thanks for your help. Kelli

When you first get it pierced you wont be able to go swimming because its like a wound and needs time to heal. It only takes 6 months to fully heal. So you will be swimming again in no time!

Kelli, I'm in the same situation as you, I think you should ignore Shell, she's evil! It's very easy to mis-spell navel. I know people who can barely spell their own name and still got their navel pierced! Basically, I'm just offering you some moral support, hope it all goes well, I'm getting mine done in a few weeks! By the way shell, I don't mean evil in the literal sense, I just mean that it's not very nice for you to start judging whether or not someone else can get their navel pierced. If Kelli feels ready, and her parents are ok with it then you have no right to say that she isn't old enough to get it done, especially not based on her spelling of the word navel! My daughter really wants her navel pierced. After doing a lot of research her father and I decided to take her and have it done for her 14th birthday this week. So, GOOD LUCK!!! Just remember if you don't like it you can always take it out. p.s. if I was young and thin, I'm sure I would have one too!!

Iam fourteen and have had my navel pierced for a couple weeks i stoped cleaning it and it got infected, so if you do get it pierced you need to wash it every day.

i am going to get my navel peirced and i know that you cant go swimming untill it has healed, but i really love going to the beach and the swimming pool so is there anything i can do like cover it with waterproof plastic or something

Just be very careful wearing jeans after getting pierced. Mine was caught up in my jeans did not know it and RIPPED it out! PAINFUL as heck!! Clean it 2-3 times a day to be safe! ENJOY!

You can wear jeans after getting your navel pierced...just make sure they're low-hip ones, like mine. :)

wow! it seems like everyone is getting thier navel pierced when they are 14..... Well I'm getting mine pierced when i turn 14 too. heh..heh.. that is only in a month. And for you people that already have it done could you give me some advice? okay.... I am good at getting pierced and all.... it doesn't hurt my ears or my eyebrow but i am nervous about my navel because it is thicker skin. so if you could give me some advice just write me at Kayn@burntmail.com thanks alot. :) -Kayn p.s. - I heard that you lay down when you get it done.... is that true?

Yea, you do lie down. I've had mine done for about 10wks now, it's worth it! it doesn't hurt and it looks gr8. Just listen to ppl wen they say u have 2 clean it! Mine's pretty much healed and i still clean every 3 days or so. Haven't had any problems yet! Good luck 2 all of u getting it dun! -Kel

ok swimming helps heal the piercing..my friend got it a while ago and the nite she got it she called and asked if she could go in her hottub. they sed it helps..and who cares about swimming ne way..screw swimming, u either want the piercing or dont want it..forget about swimming!

Hey guys, i'm 12 and i have my navel done, it doesn't hurt a lot. When you go into the shop, you lay down on the bed, they put a clamp on the top of your navel and stick the needle then the ring through. I have had mine done for almost 5 months, just a little advice, don't wear the rings with the dangle until it is healed!!! they get pulled and it hurts!!

I just got my navel peirced last night and i'monly thirteen it didn't hurt at all he stuck the needle through and I didn't even feel it about 30 seconds later I asked what was taking so long he said he was already done all he had to do know was put the jewelery in and it looks great the pain could be unberable some times but in the end it's totally worth it when I got in the shower I was like wow it looks so cute and know I can't stop looking at it it's totally worth having

Im not an expert but i know that you'll be okie..my friend recently had her navel pierced...the pain..well there was no pain..it didnt hurt at all. She had the same problem as you, and it turned out fine. Im know getting mine done in 3 days and im really nerves but i know it will be okie..well i gtg ttyl buh buh!!!!Any advice about getting it done plz respond, although i know it wont be that bad...everyone said that it would hurt more but everyone that goes through with it always has the istant thought about what it gunna feel like..well if n e one has a truthful answer pllzzz tell me, it will realli help meh out!!:):):):)):):):):)):;);););)

Heyy i got my navel pierced yesturday...people say it didnt hurt at all..obviously its gunna hurt ...juss a lil..only for 5 sec...Thank god i went through with it..im luvin it..My ADVICE...goo forr it..you wont regret it..although you have to be responsible enough... im 14 turning 15 and its alot of work to handle..but seriously go for it!!..hope my advice helped!!!
