I am looking for software to assist  me in
writing music.  Is there such software?

Hi Collen,
I suggested you to have Finale 2002/2003, sibellius or encore 4/5. There are many others but these 3 softwares can help you in writing music.

You will be amazed when you start to use it.

yeah, get sibelius 4 it's brilliant.
