2nd part to my answer.
I believe that the genius was "Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd", but not only did he "invented" ska he also gave Bob Marley a career by "inventing" Reggae. Oh, and as far as "whats in ska music". like i said in the first part; elect. guitar, trumpets, bass, drums, saxoffon, and i can't remember the name but they look like a drum but like 3 feet long. and anyone that likes ska will love to hear some Spanish ska, like; Panteon Rococo, Quince lettras. I really don't understand the lyrics but man the music... ROCKS.

Ska is a Jamaican music from the early 1960's that has had three major peaks of popularity in the years since, also known as "Waves." Ska has one of the richest histories of any music genre with a great sound that anybody can fall in love with and has provided a way for people dress, act, and even live their own lives. Ska is more than just a music genre, it is a culture. Ska is commonly played with an arrangement of horns (trumpet, trumbone, saxophone, [tuba?], etc.) and the basic electric/acoustic guitar, bass guitar, drums, and on occasion a keyboard. Ska has been known to have a "Two-Tone Beat" as describes in the song "Skankin' By Numbers" by the ska band Mustard Plug and the guitar usually is played with an upstroke with a greater emphasis on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th beats. Ska in the present-day has been fused with the punk sound to create the genre known as "Ska-Core" and has also been fused with other genres to create new sounds. www.myspace.com/notlame3 or minivertramp3@yahoo.com If anybody wants to ask any questions, I will be more than happy to answer them.
