The Jewish representative was allowed to speak freely, without fear of violence or punishment towards his people.  After the disputation rabbi was banished for printing his own account of it that opposed the church's

The Jewish representative was Rabbi Moses ben Nachman, not the Rambam. (The correct acronym is Ramban, not Rambam, for this particular disputation.)
