I have a 1 1/2 year old female toy poodle in her 2nd heat.  I want to breed her with my 6 year old male toy poodle.  She doesn't want him to touch her.  She's in heat now and growls and snaps whenever he tries to mount her.  I haven't read anything that explains why she would do this.  Any suggestions?

My female lab was aggressive through out the cycle but did let him mate once.  ( It was not nice.) We are expecting many a pup in 17 days. Don't give up, you may even need to hold her.  If you really want to breed.

My almost 2 year old female toy poodle is expecting any hour now.  She mated with my 2 year old Shih-Poo (Shih-tzu/Toy Poodle).  The first time she went into heat, she didn't quite figure out that she needed to adjust her stance, as the Shih-Poo's legs are a little shorter.  This 2nd heat, she did figure things out.  They tied numerous times, of which we witnessed four, so we were quite excited.  She also nipped at him and was very stand-offish and rather arrogant.  But, when the time was right, she stood with her rear toward him and moved her tail to one side.  We are so anxious to see our new grandchildren (as we call them).  Be patient and 'good luck'!

A female in heat will only *let* the male when SHE is ready... on or after the 10th day of her heat cycle(mine won't let him get near until day 12, then they "connect" until day 19!) You probably have already figured this out since you wrote a year ago! LOL But the information is for anyone.

Ive heard that during the first ten days of a heat cycle the female will not generally allow the male to mate, its much like a human, certain days are more fertile then others and on those days they are more succomb to mate.  If they are really being aggressive maybe seperate for a cpl of days, u dont want mommy sporting any scars! :) my toy poodle just went into heat an hr ago and im already looking up more info for it! Its her 3rd cycle and will be her first breeding if all goes well! Wish us luck! www.myspace.com/trustfundparis

Hi, My toy poodle was 2 1/2 years old when I was able to successfully breed her. She had the same problem. Don't force her to breed with him. When she is ready she will go up to him and start scratching at him. If she doesn't want to breed with him during this "heating" period then wait until the next one. Don't hold or force them to breed. She will have a miscarriage( my vet explained this to me). Hope this helps you in any way.

I also have a male pure breed toy poodle.I talked it out with a dog breeder and your problem might be that that could some how be related. If they are related they would not want to mate and if they do the chances of deformaty will be greatly increased. Keep trying and good luck!!
