What are good "busy" activities for huskies while owners are at work/school?

We think our husky has gone into heat but don't know how to tell, how long it lasts, when she is done with her heat, etc.?

Hi! If your Husky has gone into heat she will have a swelled vulva, vaginal discharge, and sometimes an increase in nipple size. When my husky was in heat her vulva got about three-four times its normal size so that is an easy way to spot heat.
As for how long it lasts that will vary alot from dog to dog. Some will allow breeding from the first day of heat while others will wait three weeks before allowing it. The time period that they allow breeding also varies from 1-17 days! So now you have a time frame of less than a week to over a  month! Mine is usually in heat for about three weeks. If you don't want her bred then keep her under wraps even after the swelling, etc starts going down. Some dogs will still allow breeding during that period of their heat.
The time slot between heat is the same story varying from 4-12 months (in very extreme cases). The average is every six months. Mine goes into heat every 5 1/2 months. The good news about heat and the spaces between them is that, just like a human, dogs have a pattern for it. Just find that pattern and she should stick to it. Count the days of heat and the months between them and it will make your life alot easier as you don't have to worry about whether or not she will go into heat this/that month! You can at least have a rough idea. Good luck! If you want more help you can email me at stanishas@aol.com. Bye! Tanisha
