I am five months pregnant and our 3 1/2 year old yorkshire  bit me yesterday.  He has never bitten anyone before, but lately he gets very defensive if he is disciplined.  We are worried how he will react to the baby and are afraid we will have to get rid of him.  Any advice?

I don't think you should be worried I have a yorkie to and when my wife had a child the dog just needed time to get used to the new changes so don't worry

Any breeder would warn you, that yorkies are not for kids. Yorkies are as fragile as a baby, and if you put them together it may be fatal. Plus if you have been treating your yorkie as more than just a pet, he/she might not understand that they are not number one anymore. I would see if you can either find the yorkie a new home or learn how to equally take care of the baby and yorkie. You might even try and get a playmate for the yorkie, then maybee they he/she will not feel so alone when the baby arrives.... Congratulations on the baby by the way!!! I started out with a yorkie to have as my baby, and now i don't know if I want a real baby or not. I really don't want to give up my baby yorkie though....

I am Five months pregnant, and was bit last week by our Mini Doxin.  I went to the ER and they cleaned the cuts out and band-aids were all they could give me.  The only time to start worrying, is if you develope a red rash around the lacerations.

I hate to sound harsh, but if you can't let that terrier know who is the top dog in the pack, then you will have to get rid of him. A dog should think his master as the top dog in the pack, with others in the family following down the line.
If your dog won't respect you, why should he respect your child? Your baby and later toddler will be climbing and pulling on your dog - do you think he can handle it?

Well... you should wait a little while and see if your dog stops having bad behavior. If he doesn't stop then you should sort of punish the dog by maybe putting him in a crate through the night. If that doesn't work if you have a basement put him in the crate in the basement through the night.
