I brought a 2000 volkswagon jetta last August. Almost immediately after purchase, the alarm started going off for no apparent reason. Nothing touching or moving the car, the alarm just goes off.  The car is standing still with ignition off when this happens.  Can someone give me an idea how to fix this?

I have a 2000 Passat turbo, 4 door, sun roof and this incredible deafining (occaisional )
vibration when I have one or some of the windows open. I think I can still hear it when they're all closed too. It is really annoying to not be able to open the sun roof or a window.

I bought a 2000 Jetta and I think it is possessed! The alarm goes off randomly, and  the battery dies every one or two weeks. I have called the Volkswagon hotline, but no one seems to help. I have literally spent thousands of dollars to correct this problem, but no one  can find out what is wrong--even the dealer. It is in the electrical system, but the dealer can't find it and each time I bring it in, I am charged more money! Anyone have a solution?

On the original question, the computer or alarm module must be completely replaced, in the event that sensitivity is preset and not adjustable.  For the person with the brake malfunction, it is the in line ABS module.  Another costly electronic part.  For the person with the sunroof.  Too bad, all sunroofs produce that buffeting and wind turbulence event.

I have a Volkswagon Jetta GLX with 130,000 miles. best car I have ever owned. believe it or not the only problem I've had was with the Tensioner on the Timing Chain, and it was fixed by VW at no charge.  I LOVE MY JETTA!
All you guys with problems! All I can say is they must have been built on a weekend in Mexico!

I bought a used 1999 jetta and no more than 2 1/2 to 3 months after I got it this guy hit me on the front driver side.  After paying the local Volkswagon dealer $6,900 to repair my car. 4 weeks later the transmission went out totaling $2,200.  Now I have a 1999 jetta wolfsburg edition, that I've spent $9,100 in repair costs that I've only had for 5-6 months.  By the way the car only cost $7,988.  Which buy the way out for four windows and a sunroof, only one window and the sunroof work.

If your VW was properly serviced by the manual, you would have had the brake system fluid completely replaced every 60000 miles with mineral based hydraulic fluid and the ABS sensor would not be on. Same thing happened to me. Basically this is from your fault.

Hi Corrine, it sounds like the treads on the tires could be a little aggressive...I'm not sure what this means exactly, but a friend taught me that aggressive treads tend to be very loud and can sound like a vibration...

I bought a 2001 Jetta less than 3 weeks ago, and before I had it two weeks, my driver side door is shutting, but the car is not reading that it is shut.  So my light has been on for over a week now and it has messed up my windows and hasn't let me lock my car with my keyless entry.  Also my car dings when i drive it and even louder when i turn on my dashboard lights.  Also, a couple days later my check engine light came on

The Jetta problem is caused buy the proximity sensors being to sensitive if you open the bonnet and look to your right there should be a back alarm box on the side of this is a turn knob turn this up or down and this increases or decreases the sensitivy. Oh and the passat problem happens on all cars well at least decent ones bmw mercedes etc its a buffer which occurs when to winds from two different pressures collide try opening the back window slightly this will help.

I have an 04 Jetta with 53K miles on it.  It is starting to have such electrical problems... radio in SAFE mode, clock and miles resetting.  The dealer tells me it is 3K miles out of factory warranty and my purchased 100K extended warranty will probably not cover it.

My first and last VW....back to Toyotas and Hondas.

I just purchased a 2000 jetta in october of this year 05 and my check engine light came on as of the 26th. I went online and found that there was a recall on the oxygen sensor and the brake light and hazard light switch. So I checked the Volks dealership and ask if this vehicle was worked for those they indicated yes. Well ok. I went to Auto Zone and they do free diagnostic checks for the check engine light problems. Had it done and it came up with two codes
P0341-camshaft position sensor,P1580-electronic throttle monitor PCM overide. Well I say to myself it has 83000 miles on it.

I also have a Jetta, 2005.
I bought it brand new off the lot paid cash in full!
It is the worse car I have ever had.
I love the look and the way it handles, but I have had soooo many electrical problems, they all started off with the radio and went-on from there to the brakes and the lights and the lights draining the battery.
There has GOT to be something that can be done to them for this, I totally feel ripped off!
I do not have money and I got the car after a death in the family and I thought I would have it for a real long time, before having problem!!!
Why is it that Volkswagon gets away with this???

I have a 2000 Jetta also. The alarm goes off 3 or 4 times a day and night. The car is parked nothing around and it just starts going off. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem. Is there a screw for setting sensetivity of alarm. VW can't find any problem of course. It happens daily to the point where I wont lock the car at night so not to wake the whole street up.

I have a 2000 VW w/turbojet engine, less than 50,000 miles on it because it has been in the shop so many times: electrical system failure (2 weeks after purchase), catalytic converter (replaced 3 times), alarm system goes off w/o reason, etc.  Other than that it's a great little car with a lot of "get up and go." The only thing that has saved me is the fact that the company gave me a 6 yr. warranty after the electrical system had to be replaced.

Hey.  I bought a 2000 VW Jetta last year in May, and I just now got it somewhat fixed.  Three days after I got the car it started over heating really bad.  I put it in the shop and it was in there for a month.  When I got it back I had it for about 2 1/2 weeks when it broke down again.  So, it's been about a year since I've gotten to drive it.  I just now kind of got it fixed.  At least I know it wasn't just me.

I just bought a 2000 jetta vr6 and i've only had it for a month and its been at the dealer getting fixed more than i've had it. My ABS light turned on about a week after i had boughten it, a weak later my coolent pipe bursted, exactly a weak and a half after i had gotten my car back from the dealership i had to take my car back because my engine light turned on...i needed a new transmission which is costing me because my dealearship doesn't cover it...so im in debt about 2,800 for the transmission alone. Never will i ever get another Volkswagon

The flashing abs and brake light is the abs system going out. There is a loose wire in the pump computer that needs to be soldered back on. This will tell you how to fix it.

The get rid of the sound from the window or sunroof just turn the sunroof knob one or two clicks and it will stop. The alarm problem is common also. Check out www.vwvortex.com for the fix on that one.

A few weeks ago i bought a 2000 jetta....had MANY problems with the alarm system going off. I couldn't stop it, i couldn't turn it on...it was a mess. Not only that, but 2 weeks after purchasing it, my breaks went out, causing me to run a stop sign and a van came and took the whole front off of my jetta. Airbags did not deploy...scary,
