My terrier has suffered a serious sudden reaction to something causing her head to swell up 3 times it's size.  After treatment with histamines, her eyes are still swollen and red, but her head has gone down to normal size.  She is lethargic.  Does this sound like she was bitten by something?  What could it be?

It sounds like she was stung by a bee.  The effects from bee sting can be lasting.  I would suggest you find a practitioner who uses both naturopathy and homeopathy to treat your little dog as in my experience if the swelling is lasting the experience requires homeopathics to undo the damage.  With a little luck you might find one who specializes in animals.  I have just gone through the same thing with one of my boxers.
Cure can be slow but if you persist you will come to a good result.

We have scorpions, brown recluse spiders and rattle snakes here that can cause dogs heads to swell up. Give Benydryl. You need to get your dog to a vet if you can.

The same thing just happened to my brothers dog and they found out it was a reaction to a spider bite being in the late fall bees are not out in the North east area but spiders still are and all spiders have venom that is potently deadly.  my brother lives in a woodsy area and now whenever he takes the dog any where he has a epi-pen just in case she gets bit again .. Because with each exposure the reaction gets worst. you should contact your vet with any concern you may have.

This could be a bee sting. My dog, a terrier mix, got stung by a bee in her mouth and her mouth swelled up as if there were tennis balls on either side of her cheeks. We took her to the vets and they said she would be just fine, but to give her benadryl the next time it happens. You should probably take her to the vets tho just to make sure everything's ok.
