Nessa, you weren't actually very helpful. My wife used Caster Oil to induce my son. My neighbor as well, and I have heard that Hospitals also keep it on hand for just a situation. I would not think of it as poison, and Nessa's link was to treat an overdose, not a normally ingested amount. It is sold over the counter in most Pharmacies, so it is not dangerous.

this is not a very nice to induce ur labour way but is most afective, if it is really what you want then do it, but its highly adviced against by doctors and midwives

if you are going to take it do it like this.
1.   2 ounces of caster oil in a large glass of orange juice. Stir well, gulp down immediately!!
2.   2 ounces of castor oil-strait! Do not drink anything afterwards. Do have a mint of some sort. Trust me, you'll want a mint!
(that info was off another website)

My wife took caster oil (4/13/04) and labor was induced the next day. Nothing bad was brought about by it. Everything turned out perfect.

First, the Fetus has to be in the "birthing" position - head down. Second the Cervex has to be dialted to 10 cm.  While Caster Oil may cause enough Uterine contraction to expell the Fetus... If you've ever tried to milk a cow, just squeezing the teat wont do it, it should be squeezed from the top down inorder to expell the milk.  I would advise against trying this as it could lead to still birth or a brain damaged baby.

My doctor told me that it would not hurt if the baby is not ready...it will just "clean you out."  My mother swore by this and I took it with my third child.  My contractions stared shortly after taking it, and he was born approximately 5 hours later.  Worked for me!
