You can start a business, that's easy and no requirement needed. However as long as you are on F-1 student visa you can not acquire any income from the business, that would be accepting employment.

Why would you start a business that you cannot aquire income from? Does that mean you can only run at a loss? Confused. Would like to start business in my own name, but what would be the point?

yes,
you can start a business when you are on f1 visa. But,you have to start on other person's name who is having a valid visa(who can work legally and earn income). You can put the investment(partnership) and you can take the partnership in the property. For example start a business with your current owner and put some investment in the business and take the percentage in the property.

well so long as purchases and comsumption are listed as "Business Expense" using a business check card there should be no problem. However be careful when transfering amounts above to $10000 to your personal business account.
