Usually about 3 days. As it enters, it is usually capsulated with glucose that allows it to survive for about 3 days.

I am trying to breed my basset hounds. She is in heat now (almost done bleeding) and she is very interested in him but he doesn't want anything to do with her. She keeps trying to mount him and make other advances towards him.  Any advise would be wonderful!

Millions of unwanted dogs are put to sleep every year because people who own a dog with papers think ther dog is good enough to breed. The dog has a good personality and so they feel thats enough of a reason, or they want their children to experience a litter of puppies, or they are looking to make money. Whatever the reason, please dont ADD to the problem and neuter or spay your dog as soon as they are old enough.
Let the breeding to the professionals who know their stock, know why theyre breeding and can go back 7 generations in their dogs pedigree.
Dont be a part of the problem.
Dont breed your dog
