I am trying to understand how signals can be used between two different processes. I have an assignment requiring the use of an int size block of shared memory. This shared memory is used by a reader program and a writer program. The reader waits for a signal from the writer indicating that a new prime number has been written to shared memory. When the reader receives the signal, it is to read the prime from shared memory, print it to stdout, and send a signal back to the writer. Upon receiving the signal from the reader, the writer writes the next prime to shared mem, sends a signal to reader, etc. I am using SIGUSR1 and SIGUSR2 to try to accomplish this, but I'm not having any luck. I've seen and heard signals explained, but I think a simple example of using signals between processes would help me understand them much better. Is there someone who could post a a simple example for this dense chick? :/
