What does UNIX stand for? What does the U, the N, the I, and the X stand for?

It doesn't stand for anything.  In 1969 Ken Thompson wrote the first version of Unix, called UNICS. UNICS stood for Uniplexed Operating and Computing System. Although the operating system has changed, the name stuck and was eventually shortened to Unix.

UNIX doesn't have meanings for the individual letters UNIX got it name by combining its original name Uniplexed Information and Computing System with a program  called LINUX
