I am looking for a personality test (given at one time by the AKC) to determine the best dog for a particular person.    ?

You don't need a test to help you find a dog.  In fact I've tried those tests before and the dogs they matched me with I know for sure I don't like.  I think it's best to just read up on a breed of dog and they will tell you about its temperament, but sometimes those tests are inaccurate.  If you don't have a clue what kind of dog you want, talk to other dog owners, or look at lists, and go from what you recognize.

Animal Planet's website has a dog breed selector, which will help you decide which breeds fit your personality.
