She can go into heat as young as 6 months, as old as 1 year or outside of this range! The space between the heat can range from 4-10 months or in extreme cases out of this range. Their bodies aren't mature enough though until at least the second heat of two years of age. After they show they signs of heat(swelling of the vulva and vaginal bleeding) there is a variance of 1-17 days before they will allow breeding and the time space they will allow breeding is 1-21 days! Breeding (as you can see) is very complicated and so is pregnancy and whelping. They all have little pros and cons that need special attention and if the owner refuses to be prepared and just jumps into breeding it can be the death of the dog and the pups. Any more info you need I will be happy to help. Email: stanishas@aol.com    Good luck!

My mini doxie puppy went into heat today.  She is 9 months and 2 days.  Her sister, from the same litter, has not gone into heat yet.  Maybe because she was the runt.
