A female ferret will remain in season until she is either bred (can be done with a vasectomised hob if you can access one so that pregnancy doesn't result) or you take them to the vet for a 'jill jab' (basically a hormone injection).  It is dangerous to leave a female ferret in season because they will development anemia and a subsequent infection which can kill them.  You can tell if a female is in heat by the fact that their vulva will become swollen (will look like an outy belly button).
gestation lasts around 41 days give or take.
