Hi,my question is,if a female dog is not pregnant,is it normal for her to have a milky substance coming out of her nipples?

YES THEY CAN HAVE A MILKY SUBSTANCE, SOME DOGS CAN HAVE WHAT IS CALLED AN ARTIFICIAL PREGANCY. WE HAD A HUNTING DOG THAT EVERY TIME SHE WENT IN HEAT, HER BODY RESPONDED JUST AS IF SHE WAS PREGNANT, EVEN TO THE SWELLING AND MILK.AFTER THE THIRD TIME, WE DECIDED TO CARRY HER TO THE VET AND HE FIXED HER SO SHE WOULD NOT BE GOING INTO HEAT AND SHE NEVER HAD ANYMORE PROBLEMS WITH THE ARTIFICIAL PREGNANCY, SHE LIVED 14 YEARS.

Usually when a dog is pregnant there is milk that leaks from the nipples if you for sure know that your dog is not pregnant then you should take her to the vet to check things out b/c then there could be something wrong w/ her! Good Luck and remember Always BE HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes after heat they some dogs tend to do that if there not breed...Its called a false pregnancy.....Sunshine

I just got a pair of shih tzu and the lady I got them from said the female might be pregnant. I wanted to know if she is pregnant but today I saw the male trying to mount her but she doesn't let him could it be she might by pregnant? She is also swollen from her vulva.
