I have a 1992 VW Cabriolet. There is a switch on the clutch pedal and the brake pedal that are connected to a vacuum line. What is their purpose or function?

the switchs are for cars fitted with cruise control when cruise is on if you touch the brake or clutch it cancels the cruise
this is very rare on cabbys
