i am new to the army and we have to run 2 miles to pass our pt test. i am horrible at running. i can sprint very good but not for 2 miles. i get tired easy,it gets hard for me to control my breating and my muscles start to hurt after only a half a mile.

yeah you will have to pass the pt test, and the muscle pain and breathing problems are just from being out of shape- i never ran more then a mile before i joined the army- then all of a sudden i was up to running six miles three times a week- the pain and shortness of breath is all mind over matter

i dont have an answer but i am new to feild hocky and i have ot run a mile in 8 mins or less i get tired and short of breath  got any tiips???

I know it sounds so repetitive and cliche but you really have to practice. Start out with east stuff like maybe 5 minutes at a pretty steady pace then walk for 5 minutes for a couple of days. Then just add about a minute or two every week or so and you'll hardly even notice that you are building up your stamina and endurance. Once you get up to 20 minutes or even 30, 2miles will not seem like a big deal at all. The average time for two miles is about 16-24 minutes (at a moderate pace). Also, you might consider running with music. It helps distract you form the fact that your legs are killing you :). Also try not to run on a track, but around the neighborhood. It will make your running time seem shorter and less boring.

i get tired and it hurts when i run 2 miles also, but i taught my body how to handle it gradually. don't run so fast that you have to stop. now "run" for 2 miles. it will be slow, but you will make it. it will be very very hard. keep doing that until you're under 16 minutes. DON'T STOP! that's the key. you're mind and body will get used to it. let your body breathe on its own, just try to keep going on.

Running is different for everyone. I'm also in the military but the navy and we only have to run a mile and a half. If not in shape that's crucial. I had the same problem. You should go out and run and do other cardio exercises at least 4 times a week. After I started running on my own for months was I able to get my breathing down. Your muscles start to hurt because your breathing is off. Try running at a slower pace and eventually work your way up to where you need to be. Practice makes perfect. You can't start running 2 weeks before your PT test and expect to pass with flying colors.
