Chihuahuas are cold natured dogs so they Shiver often, especially if its short haired. They are a one person kind of dog so he will follow you around everywhere, besides ALL dogs are going to pant and tuck their tails. My dog kinda gets limp before you pick him up, its just his way. Its like how you would kinda jump to help someone pick you up. They usually love to be held since they are lap dogs. Your dog is not weird but, maybe you are for asking such weird questions. ITS A DOG!

My chihuahua shakes so bad he goes into seizures.  The vet put him on medication but he also has a severe abandonment problem, if I have to leave him to go to work, he cries until I come home.

If you have not taken your dog to the vet to get a check up, please do. She/He can have a comman disease Hypoglycemia which can be treated in its early stages. Before you give information Jennifer make sure you know what your talking about first

I plan on getting a chiuahua in the near future, problem is I am clueless on how to house break them. They are so small, I am afraid to take it outside in the rain or snow. I know there is a such thing as poopy puppy pads that you lay down like newspaper and they go on. How would I train one to use it. And are they hard to train?

My chi. shakes a ton when she's in the car. They shake because they are either 1)cold
2)nervous or 3)excited. Don't worry too much about the shaking. I used to worry, but now I see that they do it all the time.

My puppy had a 94 degree body temperature.  The vet said that it should be 101 degrees.  He had parasites (worms).  We almost lost him.  I now use a heating pad with several layers of blankets.  I even have an adapter so that I can use it in the car.  The shaking was my first clue.

My advise is always take him to a veterinarian if you feel something isn't right.

You should look into getting him a companion to keep him company during the day..they'll compete for your attention when you get home but at least he won't be so stressed out during the day with you being at work......

I recently bought my chihuahua and he also shakes because he is so cold. I went out and bought him a sweater, his whole attitude changed. He is now a happy non shaking dog. He won't go any where without his sweater!LOL

Dear Spanky,

Please get your chihuahua a friend, either a kitten he will love, or another small dog with whom he will be able to spend the long days, until you return.  When I am left at home, I have a large chocolate Lab who I am with sometimes.  He and I sleep together, play (carefully) and just hang out.  Your chihuahua will be much happier and will love you for providing him with companionship when you need to be away.

Katie,

I shake a lot too.  Sometimes it means that I'm scared, cold, or just need love.  Mostly it means I need assurance.  Just love your dog, hold her often, try not to be angry or talk loudly around her and she will begin to relax, knowing she can trust you.  The stiffness when you pick her up is a defensive response because she isn't sure what you're going to do.  Talk to her softly and lovingly before you do pick her up.  It may take a while, but don't give up.  She loves you.

My puppy is adorable, but he does shake! He shakes when i come home from work or if I take a bath and come out it gets so excited. Its like he hasn't seen me for hours. He tucks his tail only when I say"up" then he will tuck his tail and stand on his hind legs for me to hold him. He is cute and very loveable....
