You set the balls up in a triangle it goes big, small, big, small, big, small, small, big, small, big, small, big around the outside the black at the top of the small triangle made by the outside balls and then put the big ball on the left and small on the right. It might not be big and small if not it will be yellow and red but there will always be a black ball (No.8). You put the front ball of the triangle on the second last dot on the other side of the table to the D shaped line. you can put the white ball anywhere along the line with the three dots and the D but don't put it on the D. anyone can break but it is normaly chosen by someone else if you sink the white ball on the break than the other player will get two shots if there is no balls sunk than the other player gets one shot if you sink a coloured/sized ball than that colour/size is your ball and you only try to sink that kind in the pockets if you hit the other players ball or miss all balls or just don't hit yours than the other player recieves two shots from were the ball stops if you sink the white ball the other player takes it back to the line with the D on it this player has two shots and can shoot backwards or forwards at his own balls. Once you have sunk all of your balls then you try to sink the black, if you sink the white and black at the same time than you loose if you sink only the black than you win if both players are on the black and the black doesn't sink but the white does than the person who sunk the white lost and that is how you play pool.

Not entirely correct on several points, dylan, though you may be playing by house rules. If you scratch (sink the cue ball -- the white one) on break, you lose. Also, there's technically a certain way to rack them up, not just stripe/solid/stripe, though I'll let you look that one up. Also, brush up on your physics and trigonometry, as it'll help you in the long run.
