Brian,

Due to other chemicals in pool water a dog should never use this water as its main source of drinking water. As for contact dermatitis it is unusuall to see chlorine create this problem. It is more than likely that your dogs allergies are caused by food or inside cleaning chemicals and the resultant chemical sensitivity that may develop with long term use.

I invite you to contact me for further suggestions to help this problem.

A word on Allergies and Cancer
Allergies are nothing more than an outward sign of an immune deficiency. Or you might say: The most common and most visible symptoms of nutritionally caused deficiencies are allergies of one kind or another.
Allergies often can start from the use of chlorine found in tap water or swimming pools ingested or absorbed by the skin by your beloved pet.  Chlorine is a slow killer. Chlorine may not show the damage it did for quite a while. Herein lays the problem with Chlorine.

First what is Chlorine used for? It is a disinfectant used to KILL BACTERIA. Since 80% of all diseases begin in the intestinal track, it is prudent to begin our search there. "You are what you absorb" and your pets are no different. If your pets can’t absorb the nutrients they are fed that passes through the thin membrane walls of their intestines into their bloodstream, they will suffer from a low immune system.  How they get a low immune system often starts with the introduction of either or both antibiotics or Chlorine. Both of these kill the good bacteria in the intestine used for absorption.  Often it is replaced by bad bacteria that will eventually accumulate enough to inhibit the flow of nutrients through the thin membrane wall of the intestine.
The most insidious result of a low immune system is when coupled with a carcinogen, the combination often results in cancer.

A way to re-establish the good bacteria is through the use of Acidophilus and Bifidus found in your health food store. But your pet needs to be given enough of it to make a difference. If you gave him too much, he will just have the runs, it will not hurt him or her. Acidophilus is found in yogurt. Remember to keep your pet away from Chlorine and never let your pet in a Chlorinated swimming pool.
I suggest a good Holistic Veterinarian for those who want learn more and increase the life of your pet.
