if i dye my hair with kool aid will it come out in a day or...

Ok, I mixed Kool Aid (grape/purple) with conditioner and put it in my hair and it stayed in for two and a half months. I left the Kool Aid in for like, 12 hours, but it was totally worth it cause I got an amazing color (light purple). I have black hair, so I had to bleach it first (and I did wash it with shampoo after i dyed it). Also take note that I have what some people may consider long hair (down to the bottom of my ears). All in all, studies have proven that it's different for everyone. People with more fine hair seem to lose their color quicker then normally for some reason. I hope that helped you guys out. READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE ATTEMPTING. I WILL LAUGH AT YOU IF YOU DON'T. Okay, some of you are right on it, and some of you are just crazy. You have to mix conditioner with Kool-Aid UNSWEETENED mix. I assure you, if you use sweetened, you're hair will be a disaster! You need about 2 times as much conditioner as you would need if you were to condition your hair. Put it in a bowl. Then, put 2 UNSWEETENED (sugar-free) packets of Kool-Aid (color is your choice) in the bowl, and mix well. You might want to wear clothes you don't mind getting messed up, so that if anything drips on them, you don't have to freak out. Put on rubber gloves and massage the mixture into your hair. Pile the hair on your head, and wrap in plastic wrap. The longer you leave it there, the longer the color will last. If you have dark hair, you will need to bleach it first to get any noticeable change. If you have red hair, this may not work at all, because red hair is hard to dye. Once you have sat as long as you can stand with the Kool-Aid in your hair, take off the plastic wrap and rinse your hair until the water runs clear. DO NOT stand in the shower to rinse your hair. Lean over the side of the bathtub and put your head under the water. If you have a detachable shower head, use that. If you stand up, the color will run down onto your body, and leave you stained. It comes out with a good scrubbing, but you would rather not have to deal with it, trust me. Once you're done, you can go about showering as normal. Hope I've helped.

i just put cherry red streaks into my dirty blonde hair. this is how i went about doing so: I sprayed my hair down with water, and brusehd it so it was all even. i then mixed a baby food jar full of conditioner with about... 1/4 of the koolaid. because it didnt mix so well, i had to put it on the counter and swirl it around, but in little parts. i didnt use foil, seeing as how last time i did, i ended up with a nice slice on my ears and neck. so then pulled tiny sections of my hair, and starting at my roots down, covered them in the mixture. i let it set for about... fifteen minutes before i dryed it with a blowdryer. ive done several of my friends hair, one of which was a light brown. i dyed it orange, and it came out nicely. i would suggest getting someone else to do it if you have terribly hand-eye coordination. i also died a head of jet black hair red. that was awesome. whenever the light hit it, it was a shiny red color. another tip: the cheapest brand of koolaid you can get is the best. its made with the least amount of stain-resistant products. hope that helps! :)

It makes me laugh that chances are I'm alot older than you guys. But we used to do this in the 80's all the time. It works best if you bleach out your hair first, with peroxide usually sold in beauty supply stores if you have a friend with a cosmetology lisence or if they sell the stuff in the drugstore. I ld not recommend this if you have damaged hair because you could be bald from the bleach. Then after you bleach out then put the koolaid on your hair with conditioner or water probably with conditioner would be best. Let it on for as long as you want for the amount of color you want. I would not recommend letting this on overnite. You could wake up and scare the crap out of yourself. Plus I think once the stuff dries out it doesn't work. Good Luck!

Hello there everyone! I am a hair stylist and color expert at TAZU hair salon (TAZU hair inc.). And to respond to Cole's question about dying your hair with Kool-Aid, most of you are correct. There are a couple of things you need to understand about dying your hair with Kool-Aid. Number one, Kool-Aid is a powder with a very high concentrate. Which means that it is very susceptible to staining/dying things. Which means certain hair colors will respond to it very quickly. And with that said, IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY HAVE LIGHT COLORED HAIR, DO NOT DYE IT WITH KOOL-AID!!! The whole point to using Kool-Aid is, to avoid the damage hair dye will do to your hair. If you are already willing to bleach your hair, then you mys-well just use a store-bought dye on it. There are plenty of dyes out on the market these days that will dye your hair the same colors Kool-aid will and give you the optimum results. Bleaching out your hair does so much damage, damage that usually cannot be un-done. I cannot stress this enough!! People, you CAN get these hair colors without bleaching your hair, with store-bought dyes! Now this is only for people who have dark hair. And the reason why I am saying this is, people who have dark brown-black hair will not be able to see results by dying their hair with Kool-Aid. It is a simple fact, accept it! So if you do have dark hair, you are the people who are going to need to use store-bought hair dyes. But for the rest of you who have light colored hair, from my experiences with Kool-Aid dying, you will need to mix it with conditioner. And the reason why is, Kool-Aid is a very pasty powder when mixed with water. The conditioner will make the mixture smooth and way more manageable when it comes down to the actual dying of the hair. For every Kool-Aid package you use, you will need two table spoons of conditioner. I also suggest adding a couple of drops of water. Mix all these ingredients together. After you have done that, you will need to apply the mixture to your hair. The objective is to make-sure all the mixture is applied to the hair, EVENLY. After you have done this, leave it on for 15-20 minutes. If you have light colored hair, there will be no more of a color change to your hair, after 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water. Rinsing your hair with cold water will help the dye to set better. After you have done this, towel dry and style as usual. I do suggest that you use a old towel or one that can be damaged. As you may get a bit of access hair color on this towel. And it's as simple as that girls and boys! Enjoy the pleasures of dying your hair with Kool-Aid! And remember people with dark hair.. Kool-Aid simply is not an effective hair coloring dye for us! Accept it!

The thought of mixing the conditioner and the kool-aid together,putting it in your hair..wrapping it in saran wrap ..and letting it sit for as long as possible was okay till the rinsing part. did it twice (cold and lukewarm water) and had left it all in for almost 45 minutes. Have dark blonde hair...and a tiny bit of the color stayed, but not much really. I then tried food coloring and conditioner...let it sit for about 20 minutes..and then 1/2 rinsed it out, so it was able to be blow dried if needed. When my hair was semi-damp..i took a small paintbrush,took a small bowl and put the food coloring in there, and "painted" what i wanted , then did a light blow dry. Looks great now. Do not want anything permanent..just temporary..but the food coloring as far as the "depth" of the color to me is the way to go. Hell, even if you have to do it every other day...you can get food coloring at the dollar store for god's sake. Good Luck.

Once i didn't lean over the tub to rinse it out and i had to go to school w/ a big red stripe down the front of my face, my coverup wouldn't work and i have ready sensitive skin and couldn't scrub it out, it was hilarious. also if you dye it w/ out the conditoner don't wrap it up, just let it dry in a ponytail or down, its uncomfortable down cause it really crunchy, do this when no one will see you cause its hilarious lookin, your hair feels like a hardhat! to avoid gettin it all over your forehead put tape along you hairline, vaseline doesn't work cause it always gets in your hair and that stinks horribly, it won't dye and its hard to get out. Also if you want to get the koolaid out just get in a clorinated pool, takes it out in one to two swims, so if your experimenting do it over the summer. I have never tried toothpaste cause i usually don't want to get it out.

okay people there is another way of dyeing your hair with kool-aid that my sister told me about and it works.First you get a pot about 3 to 4 inches deep and put water in it, put it on the stove and let it boil, next after its done boiling put a pack of unsweetened kool-aid in the pot and stir until dissolved then dip the hair you want to be dyed in the pot keep dipping your hair in a nd out until you get the shade pf color you want then leave in for about a day or so and then when you go to take a shower let your hair drain to where it runs clear and there you go. PS if you get kool-aid on your head toothpaste will take it off but toothpaste wont take the kool-aid out of your hair no matter what kind you have. I've had my hair dyed with kool-aid about 5 months ago and it wont come out.!Have fun!

for the last day of school, me and my friends died our hair with kool-aid. My friend did orange bangs, pink, red, blue, and green streaks and it turned out awesome. Her hair is a normal blonde color. My other friend, she has medium brown hair, did red in the front, green on the sides, and blue in the back. The red turned out the best, the green looked...interesting and the blue didn't show up at all. I did blue bangs, green sides and a red streak in the back. My hair is a dark blonde and all of our hair turned out awesome!!! We even used packets of not only kool-aid,but wylers and a cheap brand from shop-and-save. we mixed them all together and the color was awesome. The only thing was that all of the purple show up like a grayish green color when we mixed the powder with conditioner. How do you guys get an awesome bright purple??? I luv ya!!

hey i have light brown hair and i just wanted my tips done and i used cherry kool-aid (in the packet) and what i did is i boiled about 2 cups of water in a small pot on the stove and after it was boiled. i stirred in the kool-aid packet and stirred it n then i dipped in my "side Bangs" and i had my mother dip in the back tips of my hair. i love it... its in right now i dont know how long it stays in yet cus i just finished but i would recomend to wear grubby clothes cus it drips. if u dont want it RED! RED! then use a comb and run it through cus it wont be as dark. Thats wut i did first and i was like a light pink not very noticeable. But yeah talk to yall later good luck, o and also turn the stove off when u stir in the koolaid it shud be hot enough and have someone hold the pot under ur hair as you do it and it wont drip as much.Love yall! Nelly is hot! LOL

About 5 years ago I decided I wanted to dye my hair with Kool-Aid for Halloween. I had heard about the technique from my mother's co-worker who used to be into "punk", and often used Kool-Aid to dye her hair. I have naturally light brown hair and wanted to go red. I ended up using a combination of Strawberry and Cherry. I didn't use "unsweetened" Kool-Aid and I didn't bleach my hair first. I left it in for approximately an hour before rinsing it out. I was very happy with the way the color came out and it lasted until I had to cut it off (several months later). I was quite impressed with the results, but I got to a point where I honestly wanted it to come out. After a couple of weeks the constant smell of the sweet, sugary Kool-Aid made me quite ill. At that time I wasn't aware of any "toothpaste" method of removing Kool-Aid (does that work for removing Kool-Aid from anything else?). Now, several years later, I want to try it again but this time as highlights (or more technically low-lights). So I guess my point is the results are entirely individual. What some of you are suggesting is the only way to do it isn't necessarily accurate. But to be on the cautionary side, I suppose it doesn't hurt to use only "unsweetened" Kool-Aid. As far as bleaching, personally I would recommend doing a test spot first. Unless it is absolutely, unequivocally necessary for your personal taste to bleach your hair-DON'T. It causes quite a bit of damage to your hair and strips it of it's natural moisture, among other problems you will encounter. Definitely heed the advice of using conditioner in that case! If you insist, do your research beforehand! You might want to read websites like this one: hairboutique.com/tips/tip6430.htm I found that site just by doing a Google search for "bleach hair damage". But then again I am kind of paranoid about what I do to my hair. I like my hair (well it can be a love/hate relationship at times!), and I don't want to have to worry about beating myself up with regret later on in life about something I do to it now. For instance, like my mother who used to IRON (WOW) her hair because she wasn't happy with her naturally curly hair (which by the way, I'd give anything for!) and now has EXTREMELY dry hair! I don't blow-dry my hair (another way to damage hair), I don't use styling products in my hair (like I did in the '80's, just because it's not soft and natural), and I very rarely put chemicals in my hair. That is one reason I liked the idea of using Kool-Aid as a dye. My advice to all of you: Do research before you do anything to your hair, because you may have to live with the consequences of whatever you decide to do for the rest of your life. Okay, Okay...this is not rocket science here. This is all trial and error. First things first...For the people who can't keep the color in(may have dark hair or color will not easily stick) try this But WARNING the color will not fade out until at least a year or two...HEAT IT UP. If you use the Kool-Aid packets, just put one or two into a sauce pan and heat it until there is steam from it. DO NOT Boil then stick your hair into it, it will ruin the base strand of your hair! Dip whatever hair you want to in it and only keep in there for a couple of minutes. I bet your hair changed colors now! And I bet it won't come out for awhile!!! Also for another tip...Don't use pink lemonaid unless you have blonde hair because it will not do anything!!!! It's a light pink, if you put that on dark hair it is just a waist of time! HI there all first of let me stater the obvious well for some it may not be so obvious Instructions on applying Koolaide 1. Pick your color I find that red,orange,green and blue look best for my blonde corored hair. and The purple (although not very noticible) looks GREAT on brown hair. 2. I would suggest you wear a pair of plastic gloves and an old clothes or apply the koolaid when you first get out of the shower ( I find it works best dying my hair when my hair is dry so the dye doesnt drip out of my hair) next brush out your hair so it lays the same way that you part your hair generally so that when you apply the dye (if you do streaks) it wont look all patchy 3. for streaks: wet a cotton ball till u can flatten it out to look like a pancake, Fold the sides up so it looks more like a taco, then poor a small amount of koolaid onto the cotton ball and put a very very TINY bit of water onto the koolaid just so it doesnt go into your hair all clumpy.Select a bit of hair that you want to dye and take the cottonball and wrap it around the hair as close to the root as you can get and slid it down slowly ( as not to drip) till you get to the bottom of your hair. brush your hair again and repeat again untill your satisfied with your streaks *note the color looks ALOT darker when its wet than it does when it drys so if your wanting A dark color apply the dye dry your hair and then apply some more. 4. blow dry your hair :) then your done! Koolaid Pros and cons Pros :Ok they make this stuff for you to DRINK so theres nothing in there that is damaging to your body., It gives color for about 3 days and then fades IF you follow the instructions I have included nice Inexspencive way to die your hair Easy to apply No harmfull chemicals WILL NOT HARM YOUR HAIR , it does not cause split ends and will not give you mumps or measels or last for years and years and it will not kill you! Okay I am going to try to highlight my hair with Kool_aid,again. But just so you know you can highlight dark colored hair by bleaching the parts you want highlighted and putting it in foils. Get a square of foil, place it near the end of the root, use a medium paintbrush, and paint on the bleach. Let it sit for about 30min to an hour, IMPORTANT, Rinse out the bleach. Partially towel dry you hair. Pull out the same strands you bleached and repeat the same procedure with 2 tbsp. of conditioner, and 2 packs of unsweetened Kool-Aid, Double the amount for longer hair. Again Paint it on with a medium sized paint brush, and wrap it in foil, keep it in as long as you possibly can stand it. Then rinse it out. If you have to bleach your hair, this excludes you blondes.. Condition your hair regularly, the bleach can really screw up the condition of your hair.

Step by step Kool aid instructions first of all, you need to determine if bleaching is going to be necessary. Brunettes will need to bleach to achieve any kind of noticeable color, as will redheads. If you do have red hair, please understand that this may not work at all. Red is the hardest color to dye over. If you have darker hair, but all you're looking for is a tint of color, you don't need to bleach. Blondes will not need to either. Do you want streaks or over all color? The basic instructions are the same for both. The difference is that streaks should be separated from the rest of the hair by wrapping in foil. Bleaching is relatively simple. Buy a bleach kit from the store. You want a kit that specifically states bleaching. A blonding kit will not be enough. Mix the ingredients according to the directions in the box and apply to hair in a well-ventilated room. Put on a shower cap and wait the recommended amount of time. At this point, check the hair to see how much it has bleached out. If not enough, put the cap back on and wait another ten minutes. Keep checking your hair until it had turned a yellowish white color. Then go rise the bleach completely out. Do not use the conditioner that comes with the kit. This will close off your hair to the color. Next you need to mix up the Kool Aid. Choose a color you like, the brighter the better. Mix two packets of unsweetened mix with a double quarter sized amount of conditioner. I cannot stress enough that this must be unsweetened Kool Aid. If you use the sugar-added type, your hair will be a mess. If you haven't bleached your hair first, go wet it. Put on a pair of gloves and apply the Kool Aid to your hair. If this is not enough to thickly coat the hair, mix up some more and continue. Wrap your head in plastic wrap and leave it. Leave it as long as you can stand it, all day if you can. The longer you leave it, the better the color will adhere to the hair. Over time, the color will fade out. If you want it out quicker, toothpaste will speed up this process, but if you bleached the hair or you have really light hair normally, it will not remove the color totally.

MADE EASY. Dyeing your hair with koolaid!? It's cheap, afforadable, and totally fun to do with a friend. Steps Mix two packs of unsweetened Kool-Aid with lots of conditioner, in order to make a pasty mix. Dampen your hair. Apply mixture to your head. If you're doing tips or highlights, use a highlighting wand and wrap the dyed sections in tinfoil. Leave it in for 12 hours if you have dark hair, or 6 hours if you have blonde hair. Rinse out when you are done, and voila! Tips To avoid getting the dye on your pillow, wrap your head in plastic wrap, then cover your head with an old ragged towel. If you don't like the results, the quickest way to get it out is with toothpaste. Be patient! Some people think that this could damage your hair, but you are letting conditioner sit in your hair for 8 hours (average). Warnings Make sure you use unsweetened Kool-Aid. Anything else and your hair will be a mess. Things You'll Need Gloves Small mixing bowl Conditioner 2 packets of unsweetened Kool-Aid Highlighting wand (for hightlights, but if you don't have one try a pipecleaner) Tin foil/plastic wrap Vaseline, to put on the edges of your face so it doesn't get dyed too.

The most important thing is to read back and see what others have said. Numerous times they have stated that you need to leave it on for several hours, so an hour or two will not work. Also to bleach your hair, go to Sally's beauty supply and get a bleach kit, they are not that expensive and can be very helpful. I personally use the Kolidasope (spelling not right) and it will only lift 4 levels at a time. I dye my hair all the time so I enjoy being able to change when I want. And as people have said make sure to wear clothes you do not care about because it will run with the heat under the plastic cap. Also put a towel on your pillow if your going to sleep with it on, and maybe a blanket you don't give a fig about.

I'm dye mine with Kool-Aid right now and well all i know since i have Blondie hair that you have to put 2 packets of Kool-Aid in a bowl or something add a little water very little so it's not liquidly and then add conditioner so that it's like a paste and then mix it so there is no chunks, before you put it in your hair i would suggest you put Vaseline on the edges of your face so the Kool-Aid don't stain your face so bad, after you do that apply the mix to your hair, massage it in throughly, then wrap your hair in plastic wrap, after you wrap it up seal it tightly so the moisture stays in so it works and then leave it in for a few hours for best results the longer you leave it the longer it last. And you may feel a burning sometimes. But not all people feel the burning.

Me and my friend paste are goin to try this today, and here's my advice, my uncle dated a girl who always died her hair wit crazy koolaid colors, like very couple of months and here's how u do it, like evryone has said if u have dark shades of hair (blak or brown)u should bleach=) light hair ur already good to go, anywhoo, u take kool aid suga free or unsweetened(same thing), and u put that in a bowl, u take hot water and slowly pout it into the bowl of koolaid while stiring so it becomes a paste, one its a paste u can ethier stick ur head in it and rap plasticand foil round ur head or doin streakes just u can pick it up wit ur hands and since its pastey substance just like streak it in, its not that hard, keep it in for as long as u want, as said the longer kept in the longer it'll stay, then rinse , wala, good luck peeps<3!!!!!!!!!<3

Uh, that's not true. I dyed my hair using cherry kool-aid and it stayed in for a good two months.

It may take a while. I have a friend who somehow got a pitcher of Kool-Aid on her hair, and she had blue hair for a week. May I suggest trying it in summer?

i Dyed my hair Berry britsz blue and it lasted three weeks, my hair is Strawberry blond and it came right out with toothpaste.

It depends on how long you allow the kool-aid to set in your hair. The longer you have it in your hair, the longer it stays in.

im not really sure hown to do it..but i really want to!..i think you just soak your hair in the kool aid for like 15 min..and then you lay out in the sun all day..well i think thats if u wanna bleach it..im not sure..

My hair is currently 5 colors of kool aid it is blue, green, purple, orange, and red. It turned out great but I am afraid to see what happens when I wash it but I will let ya'll know later! Peace

you leave the kool-aid in for as long as you can tolerate it. it can be like 20 minutes or all day but the longer you leave it in the longer the color will last

do you just put the kool-aid conditionair mixture on to your wet hair after you shower or do you put it on dry hair ?

You get your hair damp and then massage it in,doing this in the shower is not a good idea as some of it will come out.

First, if you have dark hair or any kind of brown hair...BLEACH IT... not blonde hair dye...has to be bleach...then don't use the conditioner...with your hair rinsed from the dye...throw on your Koolaid mixture (1 tablspoon of conditioner to one package of Koolaid-unsweetened, or you will have a sticky, awful mess on your head) let it set as long as possible.. then rinse. VIOLA!!! You have color... and yes.. toothpaste takes it out...

to make highlights all you have to do is use tin-foil and then get the strips of hair u want to highlight and paint the die onto it w/a square of tinfoil underneath. When all the hair u want is covered fold over the tin-foil. Continue w/the rest of the hair u want to highlight! good luck!

How about a dog? I'm housesitting for a friend who said we were to do nothing to the house this time, but he needs someone to watch his dog. We want to leave the house, but color his dog blue. Does anyone know, will this rub off if he lays on the furniture or bed? How do you get it out once you have colored the hair?

haha funny thing bout the dog...im not sure! but hey i'd try it...does like every one said, just leave the color on the dog for a long time...if it doesnt come out of our hair when we rub it ginst stuff, i doubt it will for the dog...just use suger free :-) thanks for all the advice yall...im gonna try pink lemonade streaks! Wow. Reading all this is really helpful, but what if you just want to dye the ends of your hair. I know what you are all thinking "duh! you just dip the ends in the stuff." or "just rub it into the bottom of the hair!". The only problem with that for me is that my hair is layered, and short. Longest hair is to my shoulders, shortest hair is to the bottom of my nose. Hope you can help, thanx a bunch!

probably if you just want the ends then warp the ends in foil and color the ends then wrap them up with foil just like highlights but I'm not sure I'm getting ready to try that with my friend cat right not I'lllet you know how it comes out

Hey, it's me again. I massaged the koolaid into the ends of my hair, and let it sit over night. The next day, my hair with the colour in it was all crunchy, and I couldn't stick a comb through it. I decided to just wash it out, and the colour came out very easily with shampoo. What did I do wrong? (My hair smells like lemonade, yum, lol)

Uh hey...I just stumbled on to this conversation and it's all been helpful with what I want to do, but I have one question. I have dark-brown hair. If I don't bleach it and I do the kool-aid/conditioner thing to make it blue. Will it be tinted blue. Or not at all. Because all I want is blue tint.

i have black hair, and i didnt bleach it and i used red cool aid. my hair has a nice little red tint so it should prolly have the same effect on dark brown hair.

Well maybe you shouldn't have let it sit over night, i think that's why it came out crunchy, but u should try it again, and ask someone to help you since your hair is layered. Good Luck!

I followed the instructions with Strawberry Red. I left it on for over 1 hour. I rinsed it out, and there was no difference. What am I doing wrong?!

I have found that if you only want to do the tip then you should, mix 1 packet of kool aid with 1 cup of water. Then soak the ends in it for 2 hours. Then let it dry out, and rinse it. then when you shower if you use condtioner in it every cople of days it will stay in for a long time.I got mine to stay in for a year and a half once, then i got it cut out of my hair.
