Is it safe to give a dog Pepto Bismol for an upset stomach

My vet has recomended it several times for diarrhea and upset stomach with my dog,but not if it's accompanied by heavy bleeding or tarry stool though. The dose is basically the same as would be for a child of the same weight, but check with your vet before you give anything to your dog..some things, like tylenol and ibuprofen can be very harmful.

Pepto Bismal may have or be a salicylate which means be careful of how much your pet would have as they cannot tolerate the amount of aspirin a person can and are given lesser amounts when needed.
