I also have a golden retriever who will be 9 months shortly, I started her as a puppy on Iams and found she wasn't to crazy about it, I switched to Pedigree and she seemed to like it better! Recently Ive been noticing her nose is getting pink, I'm taking her in to the vet this Monday. What kind of bowl do you feed them out of? If it is plastic or ceramic this could be why you should switch to stainless steel.  A couple other possible reasons is lack of sun and the third is an autoimmune disease.  This can be serious and is why I'm taking my pup into the vet asap.  I don't know anything about dry and flaky skin! Hope it helped!
