Mostly all plantlife that's safe for people is safe for boas, but more importantly is the soil, It can contain bacteria, mites, bugs etc.  I had put mulch(bark) from a local pet store and was moist inside allowing mites to live and they almost killed my 4 year old red tail. Anyways, just try to use Dry foliage not any mold bearing plants.  Put Ladybugs inside the cage in the spring and summer, Laterz.

It has been my experience that live plants are very difficult to take care of in an inclosure.  The need for constant watering (as well as my boas ruining them) is just too much of a pain.  It is also hard to find plants that will stay alive in constant high temperatures/ humidity that look good. You can get false plants from arts and crafts stores that are much cheaper than any pet shop and they look just as attractive.

I was looking for the answer to this question myself. I have a 5 ft long Red Tail and haven't ever tried live plants before...which plants are harmless or are there any that could harm my snake? She seems to love her rocks to rub on, enjoys her water dish and loves to hide under her bedding. My concern is her respitory, I don't think its star gazers but she will reach to the air holes in her cage as if she needs fresh air...would a live plant help?
