I’ve been trying to run Xtrap, XFree86-4.3.0-44.EL on my PC with Linux EWS 3.0 Update 1, using the xtrapout and xtrapin commands. The problem I’ve encountered is that during the playback, the text I had entered in an xterm gets repeated so that, for example:

/home/
becomes
////////hhhhhhome///

One of the developers here thought I needed to turn off the auto-repeat function. I don’t see this mentioned on the man page – is anyone familiar with this problem and do you have any suggestions.

I've been experimenting with xtrap{out,in} and encountered the key repeating problem.  I think what the developer meant with turning off key repeat is in your system preferences.  I'm on RedHat 9, and KDE's Control Center -> Peripherals -> Keyboard has the repeat setting.  Gnome has it under Preferences -> Keyboard.

One other thing I found helpful is to put the xtrap{out,in} commands in the background so they're either recording or playing back to your actual foreground session.
