How do I know if my JRT is a purebred? His mother and father are both JRTs ,but our in-laws insist he is too big to be a JRT(he is about 20 lbs). They also say he is taller than other ones they have seen. I thought all purebreds came in different sizes, so is size a determining factor if it is a purebred? He was the biggest puppy in the litter when we got him.

JRT'scome in a variety of sizes and colors.  The general standard is not to exceed 15 inches, measured from floor to top of shoulder blade.  It could be he had two large parents and grew large.  If they were both Jack Russells, then he is a pure-bred himself.  He just might not be the norm for size.  Unless you intend to show him, what does it matter?

we have a jrt 10wk old male he has long legs and both parents were jrt. my mother has a jrt which is around the same size as yours and he is now 15years old. we always thought he was abit too tall although both his parents were jrt we found out his great grandfather was a fox terrior they look identical to jrt but are medium sized and taller, look up fox terrior you'll be supprised.

I recently got a JRT for Christmas with all of his "papers" included, my husband says that the parents were on-sight and he looks every part of a JRT except he's brown all along his back. Is this a sign that he is not purebred or is this normal?
