i have a 95 neon. my speedometer and odometer seem to work intermittently. all other instruments work fine, but the speedometer will work for a while then stop, or it will bounce up and down for a while then start working or just go to zero. any ideas on the cause. i have seen other posts with similar problems but those seem to be with all instruments no just a couple.

get a book on your car that shows you how to take out your instrument cluster. on both sides you'll see twelve pin bayonet style connectors. you must just resolder where these pins connect to your instrument panel circuit board. the solder gets hairline cracks in them over the years and just touching a soldering iron to the solder remelts the solder and all is good again. This is the third time I'veheard of this.I believe you have to separate the circuit bd. from the cluster to get to the back side, where the solder joint is.

I had the same problem on my 95 stratus (same wiring, mostly).  Its the PCM (power control module).  I had to kick & scream to get the dealer to fix it under warranty. I nearly sued them over this stupid computer chip.  The 1st new one failed almost right away.  I suggest you dump the car.

Remove your instrument cluster and disasseble it, note the 2 black power connectors and check the solder joints, most likey the connection has a crack, resolder it and it should work fine.

Dodge is junk, they make cars purposely to break and i really wish you would have sued them and hopefully put them out of business. never buy a dodge again.

IT'S NOT THE PCM FEHN IS RIGHT! Re-solder the pin connections in the gauge cluster like fehn said. Should only take about 15 minutes. As for the second guy....Yes the pcm'sin the neon and stratus are both crap. the entire wire harness set up is crap on the older models. Tip...Don't buy the first year of ANY car. That's just a given. You will have a 95% chance of electrical problems or some other major issue. But in this case, the pcm is NOT responsible for the "jumping gauges". Usually just in the speedo.
