Harrison Ford's father was named Christopher.  Why is Harrison known as Harrison Ford II?

There was another actor with the name of Harrison Ford back in the 1920's & 30's.  The number "II" only was used briefly to discern him from the first actor.

Also, given that his dad's name isn't Harry, why is he called Harrison and not Christopherson in the first place?
