I have a 1994 Plymouth Acclaim. The problem I am having is that I will be driving down the road at 55 and it all of a sudden down-shifts to first. We have checked fuses and fluids. When this happens the speedometer goes all bouncy. Please Help Me We Really Like This Car!

Check the tension on the kick-down cable attached to the throttle body. With the accelerator pedal to the floor, there should be about 1/4 of an inch of play in the cable. If that is fine, inspect the motor mounts, as if they are damaged the off set of the transmission and motor could added stress on certain linkage and cause this sudden down shift.
