I have a 4 year old pit bull, and have had her since she was a puppy.  However, she keeps chasing the horses how can I stop her I get on to her and she runs from me.  Any ideas, by the time I get her she has forgotten what she has done

First, you cannot chase her. That would make it a game and she will never learn. Obviously you will have to find way to punish her without catching her. The only way I can think of is a shock collar. There are plenty of humane ones out there if you have the money. Remember to be patient. I wish you luck! Tanisha

Take a plastic bucket fill it with marbles or stones just enough to make a loud noise, yell LEAVE IT and if she doesn't throw the  the plastic bucket at her even if you hit her it won't hurt her but the noise will get her attention.  Then call her to you and reward her with a good girl and a treat.

I have horses and my Pits leave them alone, you might try a retactable leash to put the stops to her chasing the horses and a yummy reward when she returns on call.  Always do reward good behavior.  I wanted to clarify the plastic bucket throwing I only do that when my dog does not listen to my LEAVE IT command to get his attention, but he has a good return and doesn't run from me.  So I would think you need to get a good return call on her first.  Running from you is a game run away from your dog, make her come to you do not chase her.  Get her in obedience class that will help alot.

My pit doesn't chase my horse, but I DO use a shock collar.  I have one and it has a 1000 yard range, 15 levels of shock and a toning option, which she now responds to very easily.  I use it as a warning.  I tone, and if she doesn't respond within a reasonable moment, I give her a small shock.  It is one of the BEST things I've done for my pit and my sanity.  I love it.  I'd never have my pit off-leash in any other way.

i would try using a long training line and out a simple half hitch around the gods belly and when he tries to go ofor the horses set back on it and it will stop your dog dead in his tracks, say your dogs name and then a firm NO. THEN CALL YOUR DOG TO YOU ONLY ONCE AND IF IT DOSENT COME THEN GO AND GET IT USING THE LEASH, BUT I STRESS ONLY CALLING YOUR DOG ONCE, IF YOU DO IT WILL GET THE IDEA THAT I CAN COME WHEN YOU SAY IT'S NAME MORE THAN ONCE. That should solve your problem. oh and to the person who left you the advice about the shock collar dont use them, please for your dogs sake, it would be like when you were a little kid and you got into trouble how would like to get a shock around the neck even it it is a little one, it is cruel.
