I have a sony xr-5600 cassette car stereo and yesterday it started to switch the side of the cassette constantly. If i put a cassette in the stereo it automaticaly starts switching from one side to another and even if i press rewind or fast forward it keeps on doing this. Please help me.

got also a problem like that.Player forgets what's side he was playing, and there's also a slight possibility that your player won't give your cassette back.
There's a problem with the mecanical drive of the cassette unit.A small plastic wheel that registers the position of the drive unit(stop,play,FF,FRW) gets damaged bij a cam that's been driven by this gear.After a short time, the cassette player starts to akt strange.You've summed also a few symptoms.I've allready disassembled mine 2 times, and now I'm looking for the spare part or a technical bulletin that solves the problem.Got any questions,contact me at kurtjeenkitty@tiscali.be

Mine one is a 5607 - it doesnīt tune in FM and AM - A technician told me it will cost US$ 100 to fix it - I never like it and  think itīs time to trash it.
