We are considering adopting a  4 yr old Samoyed from the Humane Society.  He was extremely matted and had infected ears when his owners surrendered him for "being too big".  Not sure if he has spent most of his time outside, but we would want him to be indoors with us. We are a family of 4 living on an acreage who walk alot and do lots of camping.  This fella would be left while we are at work/school for approx. 9 hours.  We've done a fair bit of research and read a few different descriptions, blowing his coat, possible digging...  finally my questions:  What is the potential for destruction if we leave him alone during the day?  And, with regular grooming is year round shedding an issue?  Thanks in advance... we really want to make a good decision for us and for the dog.

I have a samoyed I adopted when, according to the vet he was 3-5 yrs old. I have had him 3 1/2 yrs and love him dearly.  He stays inside and is wonderful except for being a voracious chewer.  He is fine as long as he has compressed chew bones when he is left alone.  He is good with children and people, but doesn't like other dogs to run at him when we are walking on a leash.
So far he has been a very healthy dog and is simply wonderful
