Havanese dogs don't shed. Is this breed good for someone who has a sensitivity to dogs that shed. Does the sensitivity come from dandruff and is that associated with shedding?

Sensitivity can come from several things. Some people are sensitive to the actual hairs floating around. Others are dandruf sensitive. (you still have to brush these dogs so you will get exposed to dandruf). OTHERS are sensitive to the protiens in saliva, which means getting licked can give you hives. Still others are allergic to skin oils. Finally, just because you're allergic to one type of animal (cats) doesn't mean you're allergic to dogs, and just because you have other allergies (ragweed) doesn't mean you're allergic to dogs. And you can still potentially develop problems to Havanese.

I had a Havanese dog and my allergies were perfectly fine he produced little or no dander!

i'min the same stage u r, i want a dog tht doesn't shed, that is a standard sized dog, and is soacial.

I have a Havanese and I have to say it is the best dog I have ever seen. He dosn't shed, dosn't bark(that much) and is unbalevably friendly. I'm allergic to just about everything having to do with the outdoors, pollen, dust, even bees and masquetoes. I can garentee you this dog won't bother you. If he does, cut his hair nice and short and no burs, and no durt. By the way, this breed is also known as 'The Frech Silk Dog' for oviouse reasons. Shy in a new enviornment difficunlt to train and other "facts" may make this dog not very desirable,but there happy-go-lucky ways makes you want to see them all you can.
