When forwarding email how can I erase the names of the people that it was forwarded to before

After clicking on the forward button, simply delete the addresses from the message.

If you mean you want to forward to multiple people and not have them see who else you forwarded it to, rather than putting them in the To address, put them in the BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) section instead.

I did try your suggestion and found it to work however in my case there were attachments and they would not download unless I left the address of the original sender...
