I'm considering getting a puppy Airedale and live in the foothills east of Sacramento.  Is there a breeder in my area?  I also have a female dog now (Queensland), will he be OK with her?

I can't answer your first question about Airedale breeders in the Sacramento area.  However, in the early '50s, I recall seeing several good looking Airedales in Arcade Park, northeast of Sacramento, and I would hope there are still good breeders in your area.

I raised a female Airedale and a slightly younger female springer spaniel with an older male Airedale.  The male never fought with either female, but the two females did get into a couple serious scraps.  And the male did fight with my wife's cross-breed male every time the two got together, which was only when we made mistakes.  Those were the only dogfights my male ever got into (and that's not because he ever backed down).

I also cannot answer your first question about breeders in Sacramento.

However, as far as Airedales and other dogs...
Airedales are generally quite a dominant breed, and can be dog-aggressive.  Your puppy may pester your other dog, or try to dominate it once he gets older.  You're smart to get a male puppy since you own a female dog, though.  It's easier for dogs of the opposite gender to get along.  As you probably know, dogs operate their behavior with other dogs by a pecking order.  Sometimes, male and female dogs don't need a distinct pecking order, because they will allow each other to be top female and top male.  However, two dogs of the same gender will have to establish a pecking order, and may do so quite violently if they are equally matched.

In case you are still looking, pasomules.com in Mountain Ranch, CA (off Hwy4) is the breeder we purchased our Airedale from.  They are AKC registered and cost around $500.

I had an Airedale named "Flash".  She was the sweetest, nicest, best dog I've ever owned.

She could not, however, be near my Boston Terrier "Boof", or any other dog for that matter, without attacking them. She was fearsome with other dogs.  Tough as whit leather, she thrashed our neighbor's Great Pyreneese, who weighed 120 lbs, like it was nothing.
