Possible causes of shedding includes fungal infection, too much salt in diet and food allergy. An anti fungal shampoo helps in fungus infections.
Shedding hair is normal but excessive shedding needs help from a qualified vet.

Veterinarian, now.  Rule out any medical reason.  Short-hairs do shed more than long-hairs (true, long-hairs shed seasonally, short-hairs shed all year long).  Have you changed cleaning solutions, had the carpets cleaned or replaced?

Some shorthairs shed more than others, one of mine doesn't much, the other quite a bit.  Even shorthairs need to be groomed, a damp washcloth or a special grooming pad can make a big difference, just run it over them and it should pick up the loose hair.  Indoor dogs shed all year rather than seasonally, and long-hair chihuahuas shed less than shorthairs, but they require brushing every day as well as trimming of the hair on their bottoms to avoid 'poopie pants'.

Stop the Shedding for all your dogs with The DShirt.  It is a cotton/lycra TShirt for your Dog....DShirt!.  It can be worn 24/7 and the dogs love it and look great wearing it.  Check it out at www.4leggedwear.com
It will keep your dog's warm in the winter and cool in the summer and keep the shedding hair inside The DShirt.  Once or twice a week remove it give your dog a bath allow to dry and brush off excess shedding hair then put on a clean DShirt.  My dog loved it and so will yours.

My English pointer sheds SO much, it is ridiculus.  She is a short hair, and all these little white stubborn hairs are everywhere.  Does shaving help?  We thought about having her shaved...but someone said they will shed just the same!  The hair is everywhere, in my bed, in the closet, all over our clothes and in the car!  Help!

Forget about excessive bathing as you will remove all the natural oils from their coat.I believe what you feed your dog reflects on the outside. In the winter i put cod liver oil in their feed,i give them raw food,eg:chicken necks etc with a tablespoon or so of yoghurt, the live culture kind you can buy skin and coat tonics which you put on their food all year it contains linolec acids which will cut down on the amount of hair they shed.

I also hate having hair around my house from my cat, I don't notice that my baby chi sheds a lot. I also believe that it is a myth about "seasonal sheding". There have been scientific studies that the un-natural lighting in our homes cause the animal to shed.

My dog has a very thick, coarse terrier type coat and she is continually shedding. I brush her, but then I picked up a bottle of 'Shed Solution' at the Pet Store. It has Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids and other oils in it... It was amazing, adding this to her food- a couple of tablespoons once a day... it drastically cut down on all the hair. It's a little pricey, but worth it....

My Chihuahua has started shedding and I believe that is because of a diet change because he never was this bad. We went from Iams to a store brand and that's when it started. It goes to show you get what you pay for.

So.......how much shedding is normal. My chi, Abbey, shed so much last June that she looked like a chemotherapy victim! I brushed and brushed and I still had hair everywhere! After a month or so it stopped but, now its beginning again! The lint roller is my best friend and the carpet and my bed is unbelievable! She is now about 18 months old and I wonder if this is normal or if something is wrong? Help!

My little Teenie will be 6 months this coming week.  She is an Albino.  She sometimes runs around, back and forth as if she is high uppers.  Is this normal for a Chi pup?

I have a 13yr. old Cocker Spaniel that has been shedding horribly for 1 1/2 yrs. I now keep him in the large utility room where the central unit is located. I have to clean hair several time daily off my washer and dryer and sweep the room. He's taking thyroid medicine, but it doesn't do anything to stop the shedding. It's misserable!!!!!

I think you should try brushing your dog. If its a short-haired, then brush him/her once a week. If its a long haired, then brush once a day. If it is still shedding bad, then take it to the vet. Because maybe your dog is sick, pregnant,  or dealing with stress.

Yeah, my short hair black and tan Chihuahua sheds SO much!!!  I don't know what to do!!!  I feed her Royal Canin food; the "beauty food." Is that food good for them?  I have tried everything, so now I am thinking it's just the food.

My dog, Cece sheds alot too. But you need to brush your dog everyday. And use special shampoo. I use Crazy Pet shampoo. And do Dshirts really work? If they do, I want one for my dog, cece!!!

You should brush them almost every day with a brush that would make the fallen hair on the under coat to fall that would keep less  shedding hair to be all over your hose.

I rub baby oil on my chihuahua. I also rub her down with a damp cloth. This helps a lot. All dogs are going to shed no matter what you do.

I have a long-hair dog, a French Spaniel. They shed only during the end of the winter and the beginning of spring, for about three months.  The rest of the year it's a bliss. A regular visit at my pet parlor with a plucking with my index finger and my thumb between visits works better than any other tools I've tried. A tool works fine but its just not the same result.

I am well aware that long-haireds shed less. I had one as a child as opposed to the short-haired little bastard my wife insists on us having. Anyways, I can also assure the seasonal myth. we got her about 9 months ago and the weather/time of light just changed substantially within the last week and she just started shedding heavily whereas before, a bath once a week and a rub down and hair removal coupla times a week has been more than sufficient and kept shedding to just about non existant. It will pass i am sure.

There is no stopping the shedding. My vet stated that it is only natural for them to shed and it will not go away.
