I have a Lab/Chow/(?) Newfoundland female which has been raised with a collie/husky mis female, lately she (chow mix) has been attacking the other dog for no aparent reason.  Can you shed light on this?  My deceased husband was in charge of this dog and couldn't/wouldn't control her. She is now about 7 yrs old. Many people have advised turning her in to an animal shelter, I fear she would not get adopted and then be "put down".

I would consider finding a home for the chow mix. When a dog is not made to be obedient when at a young age then when they get older they are set in their ways and are harder to control. I would not send her to a shelter i would first try a new home for her where there are not other pets.

I am the owner of a 7 year old lab/chow mix who I adopted from a shelter.  She came with some bad habits but we have been very successful in addressing those problems through training.  Both breeds are very smart and should train easily regardless of age.  Consult with a trainer who specializes in agressive behavior.

I have a Lab/Chow female who is 9 years old. I recently picked up a stray lab mix male puppy, looks like her twin, about 4 months old. I knew there would be at least some trouble because my girl was definitely a one person dog! She really bit the puppy on the first day to warn him not to go into her 'room', then never again. He learned. The rest of the yard and house are ok, there she will let him bite and chew her and roll her over and take away her toys, balls, and sticks even from her mouth; but food is a no-no, must keep them seperated. Females are very territorial and my female will not allow the male in her 'room', where she eats and sleeps. Right now they have seperate 'rooms.'

I feel that all dogs are basically good and the owners are the major problem.  I have a lab chow mix.  Knowing of the chow breed, I did thorough research and completed classes to appropriately train my dog.  I encourage positive reinforcement.  He realizes, though, I am the alfa.  He respects and listens to me.  I get many complements on his disposition.  I believe this is based on his continual training and positive reinforcement.
