pitts dont get fat they all get muscular at the age 1-2 years of age.but when they get old (4-5) they might. just feed the dog 3 times a day morning evening and night. and get the dog a lot of exercise.

All pits are generally athletic to some degree. You can tell what your going to get by looking at the mother and the father, grand parents also. My pits mother and father were kinda skinny, with excellent muscle tone. I have a pretty lean pit bull, skinny but his muscles are visible and cut. Exercise will help a great deal though.

some great pitbulls would of been laughed at if judged by looks only.a true game breed dog has not been breed for looks.in my own experience, the skinny, long legged, well chiseled dogs have the advantage in the pit.too much bulk hinders movement and speed.

to tell if you pit is going to be fat or not is determined by many factors.  1- how large(tall are the dog's parents) 2-how much exercise doe s the dog get 2-how often to do you feed, do you free feed or do you do scheduled feedings with more controlled portions. the bottom line is all of these things are contributing factors.

my pit is very lazy, she is also very tall - she is the biggest/tallest pit i have ever seen.  i thought that she was fat, not flabby but stout. the vet says that she is 'thick' and healthy.

The sire/dam will push the genetics to the pups, so the pup will grow to look like the parents but will usually take on the look of the male or female parent predominately depending on the gender of the pup. ex...female, looks more like the dam, male looks more like the sire-body type that is. The muscle will naturally be there, any exercise will enhance what already will be present. Do not overfeed, and your pit will look great!

my pit is very muscular and chisled.  i feed him twice a day and get him a lot of excersize.  i let him chase me on the fourwheeler and we walk out in the pasture and i let him chase and kill birds spuirels rabits ect.  it is good for him to have his natural instinct and have lots of exersize chasing the things.  it is a proven scientific fact that if you let him have a little of his natural instinct to kill he will be more muscular.  it makes him feel doinate which helps him build and contain muscle mass.  trust me take my advise it will let your pit bull improve alot.  ps all the other answers are ok but mine is the best right huh am i right yeah i know im right because i have been studying on htem for a while so i hope you have injoyed my advice and ect.  keep it real and im out.

Look at the parents and see if they are muscular. I have a red nose American Pit, and both his parents mother and father were over 80 lbs and well built. My pup is only 4 months and you can already see his muscular structure.

well, pit bulls are already built with thick skin which covers their extra muscles, the rest is left up to the owner to develop their muscles fully. this can be done through proper feeding at least three times a day, good health, and exercise everyday..meaning a short swim, a nice long walk and remember that when running and walking extra weights can be added (not too much).

I don't think you can tell by just looking at them. The only way to guarentee to have a muscular pit is exercise it daily. Pits do have natural muscle but so does every other dog. So if you want a really muscular pit make sure it gets plenty if exercise.

I think pit bulls are meant to be muscular but you can't really tell how muscular it will  be as it grows. For instance, If you want your pit bull to have a lot of muscle then you would make sure it got a lot of exercise and the right nutrients. If you just wanted your pit to have just enough muscle to get by, then you would do just enough to get by.
