In the final episode, during his psychiatric treatment, he explains to Sidney Freedman how he saw a woman kill a chicken that was making too much noise on a bus whilst hiding from the enemy but it turns out it was a baby the woman had smothered and Hawkeye repressed it because it was too traumatic
