good question! really! i never have seen my guinea pig sleep. i see her relaxing but her eyes are always open.

There eyes are esentailly open, but they do seem to winch a bit. UI conducted this with a video camera and 28 hours of footage

I have a guinea Pig named BuBBa and I have had him for 5 months and he never closed his eyes, unless something goes near them.

i just got my guines pig and im worried that there something wroung with it when ever i get up in the mourning to go to school she starts squelling and crying now its summer but now when i wake up she dosnet cry its wierd and she never ever closes her eyes!:(

i think that guinea pigs probly sleep w/ their eyes open.. cuz that's what i read once.. but im not really sure cuz iv never seen mi guinea pig sleep.... or mayb i hav and it's i's were just open.

i think guinea pigs sleep with their eyes open cuz iv never seen mine close its eyes, not even at night!!! she only closes her eyes when something makes her jump or goes near her.

Yeah, they do sleep with their eyes opened..  I never really believed anyone until I got a piggy myself.

I have never seen Buddy close his eyes. There are times I am up all night. I have looked in his cage and he is very quiet and still. Also during those times, if I go to pick him up he does not "talk" to me like does when awake.

My guinea pig sleeps.... i think. sometimes when i put my guinea pig on my lap, it starts to close its eyes and starts to flap its ears. Im not sure if this is sleeping...

My guinea pig's name is Harry and he is 4 1/2 years old.  Ever since he was a baby, he has laid down in the corners of his cage and slept with his eyes closed.

That's not true I have seen my two female guinea pigs sleeping with their eyes closed maybe it is possible for them to sleep with them open but they can definitley sleep with them closed as well!

Most Guinea Pigs sleep with their eyes open, and there are only a very select few who actually close them while sleeping.

My Guinea pig sleeps with her eyes closed. I once saw it dozing off because the house was very quiet and it kept nodding until it almost became off balance!

My guinea pig has her eyes open all the time but one time she was laying down almost on her side and had her eyes were completely closed! I thought she was dead but when I moved the cage she woke up. I believe guinea pigs sleep with their eyes open, only closed on rare ocassions.

i think guinea pigs do sleep w/ there eyes open cuz my guinea pig never shuts his eyes and i was worry. but then i read something about how guinea pigs sleep and i think they said they do. so i think they do. also yes i think guinea pigs sleep w/ there eyes close cuz i had a girl guinea pig and every time i got up for school and we  are talking about 5 in morning. i turn the light on and her eyes were close after i said hello she wake up and cry.she died but know i have her son which sleep with his eyes open. so i think every guinea pig is different.  some can sleep with there eyes open and some sleep with there eyes close. i think it depends on ur guinea pig. so yes they can sleep with eyes open and yes the can sleep with there eyes close.

I have 2 guinea pigs, and when one sleeps with closed eyes, the other sleeps with one eye open. Apparently they can do both!

I have two guinea pigs named Cinnamon and Buttercup and I have seen both of them close their eyes while they sleep. So I believe that they close thier eyes when they sleep. We may not see them because they only sleep for a few hours every night.

Well i have a guinea pig and i haven't ever seen her sleep. But my mom said every time she comes home she looks at my guinea pig and her eyes are closed so i think guinea pigs sleep with there eyes open.

they usually sleep with their eyes open, however, ours sometimes sleeps with them shut, i wonder if the light disturbs her?

i think they sleep with their eyes open because my guinea pig fell asleep with his eyes almost closed. but i'mstill not sure. It makes sence if they do, because in the wild they couldn't sleep with their eyes closed because they are easy to catch by preditors, so they have to have time to excape.

I just got my piggy, and so far have never ever seen him close him eyes.  Recently I scared him crazy because I didn't know that he was sleeping since his eyes stayed open. So, I thought, wow he's so meek today, didn't even run when I picked up his house, and I started petting him.  At some point he looked like he was waking up, but his eyes were open the whole time.  When he finally saw my giant hand near him (imagine that sight,as you just wake up LOL), still sleepy he started up running from me like crazy, where as before when I reached out to pet him he was laying very quietly.  This brings me to conclusion that they do keep their eyes open when they sleep, and that is the reason I decided to check this page out.  Thanks for all your responses, now I'm convinced ! ^_^

At night when i check on China-Kisses, she always seem to be awake. I guess they sleep with their eyes open.

i'm not sure! my guinea pig - smudge- runs round then is so warn out he kind of collapses on his side to relax. His back leg extends out and his eyes close slightly. Only once have they shut properly for any significant length of time. Perhaps its a mystery not meant to be solved!!

To me I think that a guinea pig sleeps with their eyes open, i think that because when my guinea pig is really still like shes sleeping her eyes are open. Yea, me too, i wish they slept with their eyes closed. oh yea, whats my guinea pigs name, its called Betty.

My guinea pig Riley always has his eyes open when i look at him at night... and the morning.  It's kinda freaky to think that they sleep with their eyes open.  But i think thats what they do.

i think guinea pigs do sleep with there eyes open because one time i was playing with my guinea pig outside and he went under
-neth a towel and when i fliped it up his ears were close together so that he was sleeping so if you  want to know if you're  guinea pig has his/her ears together that MAY mean he/she is sleeping

I just got a guinea pig yesterday and it won't eat a lot at a time or drink....it also probably sleeps with her eye's open cuz she is always "awake" when i wake up in the middle of the night.

i had a Guinea for aleast 4 months
i checked every night she never closes

some guinea pigs sleep with there eyes open or closed sometimes it depends like if its a pregnet guinea pig it will sleep with it eyes closed but some male and females will sleep with eyes closed or open

Well once my guinea pig was on my lap and she shut her eyes for a few minutes but if i wake up in the middle of the night and one of my pigs are in a box then i tiptoe up to see if they are sleeping then they just stare at me.

I think the older ones sleep cos the pg that was on my lap is 5

Well my guinea pig sleeps with his eyes closed but he never used to and as soon as i go near him he opens them but maybe it depends on if there comfortable!

I think they sleep with their eyes open, I'm not positive but at least mine does. I've never really seen her sleep. I'm watching my other one right now and he just kind of squints and puffs himself up. His eyes arent all the way closed.

My Guinea pig named squeaky is dying i think. It lies there and keeps it's eyes open. Can somebody help me?

i was like wondering but yeah my guinea pig never stops running around his care unless he is eating or drinking i think he might have a problem! and he wont eat either like he is starving his slef or somehting butt oh well he is like 8 months old and i have had him for 5

Guinea Pigs sleep with theyre eyes open in a form of defense against predators. One way to find out if theyre sleeping is if theyre sort of sitting instead of standing on their paws

In the 2 years I have had my guinea pig I have never seen him lie down & close his eyes unless, I pet him softly or/& sing to him softly.

I have two guinea pigs. Their names are KIRBY and DERBY. Their eyes are always open. But I don't know because today is 3/4/07 and I got them on 3/3/07.

I think that guinea pigs sleep with their eyes open because i have never seen mine sleep. Also i haven't seen my guinea pig's eyes close.

It's almost if my guinea pig never sleeps because you always hear him eating and drinking at night and definetly alarmed in the day

Actually, it depends if guinea pigs sleep with their eyes closed or open. I have two guinea pigs which I had them for three in a half years. Some guinea pigs would usually take really short rests and be relaxed but usually their eyes would be open while doing this. Unless they're extremely relaxed and 100% exhausted, their eyes will be half way closed. As your guinea pig grows older, their eyes begin to close little by little than a baby guinea pig's.

I have the cutest guinea pig Charlotte and I believe My guinea pig sleeps with her eyes open,because every time I go to look at her at night her body is still but her eyes are open.I think she is sleeping or she is scared half to death.Plus I only see her eyes closed if she is blinking or if you put something near her eyes she closes them.

I red once that ginny pigs eat people. My friend Nathan has a ginny pig that once ate a 13 pound baby. They had left the house for a while and when the came back--fat ginny pig. They thought he was sleeping with his eyes open. But he was dead.

i think guinea pigs sleep with their eyes open because i got him today and i never saw him blink or close his eyes so i will put a camera and ill see and ill write back to u.

i dunno my guinea pigs are always alert so you dont know if they close their eyes or not when they go to sleep! must be pretty tiring sleeping wid ur eyes open.

I wanted to know the same thing. my girls just got a guinea pig and we have had him a week and his eyes never are closed.  he never sleeps.  whats up with that.

well my guinea-pig Hidey dosn't close her eyes she hides under stuff so i thought mabey thats how she sleeps so its nice and dark for her but other than that i've never seen her close her eyes even if my rabbit Bunty is snuggled up next to her she always has her eyes open

i had mine for a wil now and i never saw her eyes closed and my mom was scared 4 a minute. dut i do think they sleep with there eyes open, cuz my guinea pig is scared of every thing and win its just there she dont move, so u do the math

guinea pigs don't sleep with their eyes open. sometimes it looks like that because when they sense a noise coming close their ears start to shake and the open their eyes immediately. when they have moved around a lot  in the day you will find them sleeping near soft areas with their head down. they just sleep for a short period of time

They squint when they sleep. They are diurnal. They sleep 4-6 hours a day in 6 minute increments.

i'm not really sure whether they sleep with their eye's open or not, but yesterday i went to go check on my guinea pig and his eye's were open and when i had gotten close to him he seemed as if he sprung awake. he shook up.

I think guinea pigs sleep with teir eyes closed because i was holding my guinea pig once and he lays on a towel, curls up, and his eyes are shut.His name is Oreo.

Guinea Pigs only rest with their eyes open, they do not sleep like we sleep, they have no eye lids to close their eyes.

onli dum asses ask dis question why dont u test it n see if dere eyes close. da onli way dey close dere eyes is if u put ur finger or anything near it.

I have had my 2 guineapigs for a year now and one sleeps with her eyes closed and the other sleeps with them open so i guess it all depends on the guinea pig.

i just got my guinea pig and saw it kinda relaxing with 1 eye open or 1 eye closed. i couldn't tell if it was sleeping
